Sunday, September 7, 2008 Hurricane Hanna passed over yesterday morning. Very little damage other than having to close up for 3 days. During the process of boarding up, many folks, including us were anticipating a major storm by the name of Ike! Looks as if we are going to miss this one completely. This afternoon we counted about 18 surfers in the ocean just off N avenue here in town. Waves were 3-4 feet making a 6 to 8 foot troughs. Stay tuned! Weekend comes to an end with a gentle rain shower turning into a good ole
fashion down pore. (10:45am) No fishing reports at this time. There's been a
slight dip in the price of gas this week. In Wilmington, I was able to get gas
for $3.919. Truck driver traveling though South
Carolina reports the price on one sign was $3.699
per gallon. On the Island and north 10 miles to Monkey Junction, prices run from
$3.96 - $4.05. Stay tuned!

Hi 03:53 am 04:49 pm Low 09:48 am 11:18 pm Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Spots, Bluefish and Croakers are hitting here and there along the surf. Evening
time is real nice! During the day, H U M I D I T Y is the word. Quite frankly I
enjoying it! YES! ENJOYING IT! According to my memory,
its been two years since I felt this kind of hot, heavy air experience. If
you can imagine this, its kind-a like pulling out your pocket knife and cutting a
chuck out of the air and watching it fall to the ground and splatter like a
lump of warm "air" dough. Guest
fishermen asked me, "Where can a fellow take his family fishing without all
these swimmers in the water?" I mentioned the Old Dow Intake just up the beach.
Since he had a 4X4, the south end of the Island is also secluded!

Pompanos reports have picked up! Devoted fisherman plus a fan of the Kure
Beach Fishing Pier, our buddy David, has come home with his shirt cut and
his very first King Mackerel. Cutting the back of the
fisherman's shirt has been an initiation practice that dates back 80 years! "I
can't prove this but if I were a betting man, I'd bet the first fisherman to catch a big
fish might have needed a cleaning rag or something during all the excitement?"* Saturday, July 12, 2008 For us, fish catching has been way off the past 5 days! A four foot sand shark was the only catch reported at our shop this week. Party boat reports for today were not as bad, but certainly not the best. The Carolina and Kure Beach Fire Departments are having their 26 or 27th(?) annual Got-em-On fishing tournament this weekend. click for details. Stay tuned! Gasoline $4.01 & up for regular. Tomorrow's tides Hi 4:37 am 5:24 pm Low 10:22 am11:53 pm Tuesday, July 8, 2008 No fishing reports at this time. Baffling hurricane predictions. If you noticed there is a hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean. The five day forecasters have moved their predictions several times. Last Saturday forecaster pointed it to the east coast of the United States. Monday morning she's was pointed to Bermuda. Last night she's was pointed between Bermuda and the Azores. Best we can do is hope the hurricane stays away from land and ships on the sea. Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.95 & up for regular. Tomorrow's tides Hi 12:59 am 1:47 pm Low 7:11 am 7:50 pm Sunday, July 6, 2008 Fishing reports for this holiday weekend came in fair. Boater off shore caught Snapper and Mackerel. home cooked seafood meals over the past couple of days. This morning, special

these tomatoes the prime ribs of the garden.

ourselves under one heavy rain shower yesterday. Lighting bolts and thunder had
many of us scared to hold a fishing rod next to a mass of water. Today, several
folks are taking advantage of crabbing. Virginia Mullets and Croakers are still
the # one catch. 12-20 inch Sand sharks are annoying many fishermen. "Shrimp too
expensive to feed these fish", quoted one fisher lady. This

Hi 11:31 am 11:43 pm Low 5:29 am 5:12 pm Friday, June 20, 2008 Recreational fisherman ask, "Do I need a 'fishing' licenses to fish even if I don't catch any fish?" Catching fish and fishing are not the same, so the state now charges for saltwater 'fishing' regardless of the catch. Saltwater boaters should be reminded to remove the wheels from their boat trailers often and lubricate the rims & hardware properly. Blow-outs may be a real time consuming process. Now for some good fish CATCHING REPORTS!! Bird takes minnow from minnow tank. This happen in broad daylight, two witnesses!! One pound of $8.00 heads-off shrimp yields a nice catch of 25 or more fish for one fisherman today. Other fishermen catch over 75 by pulling an all-nighter on surf. Overcast day with a dark cloud or two offers some good relief from the heat. Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.99 & up for regular. Tomorrow's tides Hi 12:41 am 1:23 pm Low 7:04 am 7:14 pm Thursday, June 5, 2008 Another lazy morning here in Kure Beach. Looks like the "Kure Beach Fishing Pier" is getting ready for another "Step up Soldiers" event soon. A very special "thank-you" event for our Veterans!! Little while ago, I made a call into the Carolina Beach Town Hall regarding fishing their public lake. There are no signs posting no fishing at CB Lake but, the consensus there and all up and down the beach is, "Do not to eat any fish caught from the lake or yacht basin. Most of these waters are storm water runoff". Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.83 & up for regular. Tomorrow's tides Hi 10:21 am 10:51pm Low 4:24 am 4:06 pm Wednesday, June 4, 2008 BIG, BIG thanks to Mike! Mike email me this morning informing me the NC Fisheries changed its freshwater fishing requirements in 2007 to require everyone to have a valid license when fishing any public waters in the state of North Carolina. According to NC DMF, this includes all those who fish with a worm hooked on a string, tied to their very own big toe while sleeping next to any public stream in our wonderful state! Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.83 & up for regular. Tomorrow's tides Hi 9:24 am 9:57pm Low 3:30 am 9:57 pm Tuesday, June 3, 2008 Fisherman reports a "Whopper Flounder was hooked and landed on the Kure Beach Fishing Pier today!!" Yesterday's natural bait question. [Although most streams and rivers in the state are considered public waters, access to a stream or river may not be. Always obtain permission from the landowner before entering, crossing or fishing from private property. A valid North Carolina fishing license is required for inland and joint waters AND (2007) when hookandline fishing in one's county of residence with natural bait. For more information concerning licenses and fishing regulations, contact the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) by calling or writing the Commission... http://www.ncwildlife.org/pg03_fishing/pg3d6.htm] Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.86 & up for regular. Tomorrow's tides Hi 8:28 am 9:03pm Low 2:14 am 2:37 pm Monday, June 2, 2008 Couple came in the
shop today wanting to get the proper fishing license. Fishing in Sutton
Lake, northern New Hanover County, requires a freshwater licenses. Fishing in
the Cape Fear River north of Sutton Lake is joint waters so a minimum of a CRFL
>or< a Freshwater License will do. Fishing in the Carolina Beach Yacht Basin,
Ocean or Cape Fear River from the beach or banks of Pleasure Island requires a CRFL. Now get this, fishing in Carolina Beach Lake
requires a freshwater licenses. The CRFL doesn't meet the minimum
requirements fishing here. I will check on the freshwater live-baits exemptions
tomorrow with the local NC DMF. To see this and more valuable North Carolina
information regarding the where too's with which fishing licenses, click
NC Wildlife's Maps
Website. Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.86 & up for regular.

today. Wind blowing just out of the south. No reports at this time. Yesterday a
fisherman was asking if its okay to clean fish on the beach? The last I heard,
you are allowed to gut a "regulated fish" with its head and tail intact. If the
fish is non-regulated, say a pin fish or other bait fish, the game officials
need to be able to id the bait you are using. Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.79
