Thursday, July 31, 2003 A few reports of Croakers, Virginia Mullets and Spots alone the beach are coming in. One large size Flounder missed on the river banks at the Carolina Beach State Park! New Fall line of rods and reels coming in mid August. Stay tuned! Wednesday, July 30, 2003 Unusual bird activity. I have never seen Brown Pelicans glide at such hi heights. I estimate that they are up about 400 plus feet. Their beck's are pointing down as if they are looking for fish! The only catching I here around here are in the inlets and way off shore in boats. That's all! Stay tuned! Tuesday, July 29, 2003 Nothing to report at this time pertaining to catching fish. The car/bicycle accident on Atlantic Avenue Saturday had one youth in the hospital for stitches and a dislocated shoulder. He went home from the hospital that same day. Nobody I have talked to has caught anything since Saturday. The high amounts of rain inland have made their way down the streams and Cape Fear River and into the Atlantic Ocean. Last night a commercial fisherman, whom I consider a friend, was frustrated by the amount of fresh water in the Atlantic. He has to travel 10 miles off shore before he sees 100% true salt water. Spanish Mackerels are not popular to brown brackish ocean water. The western wall of the Gulf Steam is over 110 mile instead of the normal 55 miles this time of year. That explains why we do not see any sea grass on the beach from the Sargasso sea. Stay tuned! Saturday, July 26, 2003 There was an accident on Atlantic Avenue. Bicycle and Car. Little boy involved. The beach is very crowed this weekend. Drive carefully. Stay tuned! Friday, July 25,2003 Just in at 6:31 PM. Some of our lady guest have caught several Virginia Mullets and Pompano in front of the Blue Marlin Apartments. Its been a while but some fish are showing up! Another family came in with several nice size Black Drum and Virginia Mullets. Sand Flees and Shrimp on short shank hooks is this gentlemen's favorite tackle and rig. The family was fishing on the northwest point, north of Carolina Beach on the incoming tide. (Four wheel drive territory.) 2:00pm Regular long time customers report a good catch of fish in first bay next to Zeke's Island. Many 12 - 18 inch Croakers and Black Drums filled these guys coolers. The water depth was around 6 feet. Sorry but they were fishing in a boat and walking there is almost out of the question! It can be done under dangerous conditions. Personal I would not walk that far on the rock wall to Zeke's Island. Many holes and no fast exits unless a boat stop and picks you up! Stay tuned. Thursday, July 24,2003 Happy Birthday to someone special! Gentleman with his wife stopped in and said that they had traveled down the coast from Topsail Island. Catching fish there on Topsail was about the same as here, small scattered catches of Spots, Virginal Mullets and Pompano. He was upset to! On a brighter note, I did get an email about a fishing trip to Massonbore Island. Several Red Drum were caught on sand flees in the 18-27 inch slot by several fishing buddies. He reports a Drum over 42 inches was also landed with a finger mullet on 8/0 circle hook at night time on incoming tide. Massonbore Island is one of the few Island that is close to a major city, Wilmington, NC, that is not developed. Fishermen and others are allowed to visit this island but they can not stay over a certain amount of days. Meanwhile, Karen and I got away this afternoon and drove our truck up to the old Lane's Ferry crossing on the old Northeast Cape Fear River, approximately 55 river miles up from Kure Beach.* The ferry has been replaced by a bridge that carries country road NC 210 . While we were there, I think I saw a large Rock fish jump in the middle of the river and a Red breast Crappie fish next to a wooded dock, which reminded me of a true story that happened in the store. When I was about 14 years old, I caught a 17 inch Bull Crappie with my good buddy Danny. Last year, I was retelling this adventure to a lady customer about this fresh water fish delicacy. The puzzled look on her face made me ask the question, "What's wrong with Crappie? Pan fried in cornmeal served with vegetables is great!" She responded and said, "Why would anybody want to eat a crap 'e' fish"? And she left with her arms crossed! Get it, Crap fish. I got a good laugh out of that! Stay tuned! Wednesday, July 23,2003 This afternoon had two nice ladies come in. They were serious about Crabbing. Ask for chicken necks but they settled for cut mullets and much Crab tackle. Not sure, but I believe that they had their neighborhood's youths with them (10 children). Way to go! Making the best of quality time. On another note, local are getting too many bites. Unfortunately Mosquitoes bites. Stay tuned! Tuesday, July 22, 2003 Update 9:50pm. A report from our "Talk Back" email stated that a small 2 and half foot Hammerhead Shark was caught of the south end of the island. Sand gave this fisherman a challenge. (From others and my experience, dropping the tire pressure down from the safe highway psi to 25 psi makes the ride a bit easier going "over" the sand. Caution reset the tire pressure back to the original safe hi-way pressure when driving at speed over 15 mph. Our shop has free air for cars and truck tires. We charge a fee for beach rafts and other air items. 5:00pm We did here of a promising outing yesterday. One of our guest, a sweet lady, reports that she saw a gentleman cleaning a nice size Flounder on the Kure Beach Fishing Pier AND, get this, another person weighing a 27 pound King Mackerel. Other than this, fishing is still in the dog days of summer. Everybody I have talked to thinks that the bright sun, heat and mostly, the heavy rains inland are disturbing the fish catching. Stay tuned! Sunday, July 20,2003 The heat is On! Several fishermen are purchasing umbrellas as they fish the hot sandy surf. Scattered little catches here and there like yesterday. One of our guest from the High Rock Lake area reports the lake is at the opposite end of the water level spectrum compared to the same time last year. Around here the ocean levels remain the same not counting the tide changes. Stay tuned! Saturday, July 19,2003 Looks like the hot weather has played a factor in fishing this past week. Several dedicated fishermen, and women, have been disappointed. We have seen scattered little catches here and there of Spots, Virginia Mullets, Croakers and Sand Sharks. A young gentleman who follows our fishing reports was down from Virginia, reports that some Sheephead fish were being winched off the Kure Beach Fishing Pier. Another young gentlemen from Pilot Mountain, NC caught a few Croakers, small Flounder (released) and a sun burn. His Dad said that two men fishing the northeast corner of the end of Kure Pier, mopped up a cooler full of fish. Overall, fishermen are waiting for the fishing season to begin starting the second week in cooler September and into cold November. Stay tuned! Thursday, July 17,2003 Well I hate to say but here it is. Catching fish has hit bottom so to speak. We had a family down from Ohio who in my opinion had a disappointing adventure fishing the Cape Fear River and Snows Cut this past week. Other fishermen are fairing about the same. Small Sheephead fish and 20 inch Sand Sharks. Stay tuned! Wednesday, July 16,2003 It's been a scorcher today according to my big sister. My cousin's family is here taking some quality time off fishing and playing in the surf. One small Flounder (released) and a few other fish were caught. Many fishermen are back buying up the few minnows we have left and heading up to Snow's Cut. Stay tuned! Tuesday, July 15,2003 Update at 9:00pm Several folks in prospecting for fish. We have sold out of Bloodworms at this time. 5:00 pm Fisherman stopped in for some bloodworms. Said he caught several Spots, Virginia Mullets and Croakers on Kure Pier last night . "At midnight fish stopped biting ". Weather was hot and sunny today with a good cool breeze now and then. Today, I-40 reopen in Duplin County! Stay tune! Monday, July 14, 2003 Yesterday and today's "catching" reports have been bleak! Waterway had several boaters fishing. No reports to give. Heavy rains are causing flooding just 50 to 125 miles west and northwest of Kure Beach. I expect by this weekend much of the rain waters will be in the local waterways. I hate to tell you this, but parts of I-40 are closed due to flooding. Without the winds, this has not happened since hurricane Floyd. Stay tuned! Saturday, July 12, 2003 Young guns catch first fishes! Sand flees worked great for these guys! Overcast skies and a dark cloud here and there are not stopping folks from heading out. Stay tuned! Friday, July 11, 2003 Scattered Spots, Blues and Croakers are the only fish I have heard caught today. Very few folks on surf fishing. This afternoon one long-rod on the very end of the Kure Beach Fishing Pier and a hand full along its side. Today I saw several Jon boats on trailers at a gas station filling up with gas. The waterways have been very productive over the past weeks in producing Flounders, Black Drum and Red Drum. Stay tuned! Thursday, July 10, 2003 Hi heat again today. Several folks fishing Snow Cut in boats and on the banks! You may recall that's Flounder territory. Stay cool! Wednesday, July 9, 2003 Dedicated fishermen are catching plenty of Spots and Virginia Mullets on Bloodworms and shrimp in the cool-of-the-day, (8:pm till sunrise)*. Gentleman from Newfoundland, (Yep! All the way up there in east Canada), is amazed at the price of this expensive little red blood sucking leaches but, if that what it takes, might as well use them! Dozen or so Spots can make a wonderful meal. Its very HOT outside from 10:00 AM till 4:00 PM. Very Hot! Stay-tuned! Tuesday, July 8, 2003 It's a scorcher outside. 96 degrees according to one billboard thermometer. I do see people sweating it out, so to speak, for Spots and Virginia mullets, but that's it. Stay cool! Sunday, July 6, 2003 Today, fishing reports were on the slow side according to several fishermen. Best report came from a family man from Roxboro, NC. He saw four large Sheephead fish caught off the jetty wall located at the end of Battery Buchanan, Fort Fisher. Many folks were down this past Holliday and reports in general were "a nice vacation". Most motels were full the past four days, now I see lots of Vacancies. Stay-tuned! Saturday, July 5, 2003 Today, Ice was in big demand. Some used to re-Ice down what was caught on charter boats. Black Sea Bass and Pink Snappers made up some of the fish caught off shore by one captain and his crew. On shore, Spots and Croakers were doing Okay on Bloodworms. Kure Pier was complemented a lot by several fishermen. Everybody seemed to be taking the beach in stride. "Playing and relaxing on the beach". Big fireworks from South Carolina have made it to Kure Beach again. Stay tuned! Happy Fourth of July!! Walked out to the surf today and saw 2 rods on the surf. Everybody else was playing, laying on blankets or swimming in the water. Estimated 13 long rods off the end of Kure Pier and many more along smaller ones along the sides. This morning a lady reported that her husband and brothers caught several Flounder and Red Fish in a the bay. They were in a boat. Traffic was backed-up four blocks from the stoplight today. Stay Tuned! Thursday, July 3, 2003 11:30 am. Skies have a clear blue hazes. Spots and Virginia Mullets are making it to the coolers of several fishermen. Stay tuned! Wind gusts were out of the south around 25 knots. Spots catches were scattered along the surf. Stay tuned! Tuesday, July 1, 2003 Laid back atmosphere at our shop today. Lots of Worms, Shrimp and Minnows sold to Dad and Sons fishing teams. The cloudy over cast skies and light sprinkles of rain have been a welcomed site to many a folk. Stay tuned! Monday, June 30, 2003 Fisherman returns to purchase Ice. "Fishing was HOT, weather wise", he said. Fishing off the Carolina Beach Fishing Pier, his catch consist of some "keeper" Spots and Virginia Mullets. Sand Sharks, he released back. He did see a fellow catching lots of nice Sheephead fish with Barnacles. This past Saturday, the Town of Kure Beach was packed with folks. It's been a long time since I have seen this many people here. Today the visitor count has drop off and is back to normal for this time of year. Many motels have Vacancy! Stay tuned! Stay tuned! Saturday, June 28,2003 Update! 8:30pm More than 150 people on the Kure Beach Fishing Pier. Ask a fisherman on K avenue about his fishing. He said," Just walked out on the pier and saw them cleaning lots of fish, not sure what but we are fixing to go and buy our pier tickets to fish". Is addition to the boater arriving this morning, canoes, row boats and kayaks have arrived also. Yep! On a calm day, I have seen folks fishing the ocean in one of these small boats. Lifejackets are a must! Customer ask about the regulations on Black Drum. At this time there is no regulation on Black Drum. (rules click here) 2:00pm Many boaters are arriving today in hopes of catching a few fish. Water skies and jet skies are starting to pop up in Snows Cut. Regular fisherman are complaining about the sun's rays and heat. They are buying and wearing sun caps that cover the ears, neck and forehead. This weeks shrimp catch looks good enough eat, but we have to market it as good ole BAIT! Also, Canadian Bloodworms are in excellent shape despite the long trip in the heat. Good job Susan! Stay tuned! Friday, June 27, 2003 Candor fisherman looks forward to cooler October fishing. The Croakers, Spots and Sand sharks were his main catch this past week. Many folks are packing up and heading back home with fresh suntans. Stay tuned! Thursday, June 26, 2003 Local fisherman lands a large 5 pound Red Drum in surf. He said he was fishing just north of the Kure Beach Fishing Pier. Remember NC rules, 1 Red Drum 18-27 inched per day per person. We hate it when we here someone getting a fine of $200 or more! Believe me, I've seen it! Furthermore, these rules do produce more fish in the water! Amen and Halleluiah! Stay tuned! Wednesday, June 25, 2003 7:30pm UPDATE! He said the water was muddy with brown rainwater from up state and that was good! ( ? see Friday the 13 of June) 3:00pm The beach here at Kure has dozens and dozens of folks playing in the water and surf. Only saw one person fishing today. For now, its night time for me to catch fish. Sure that big stray will come in a get everyone's heart beat up during the heat of the day, but let's face it. It much cooler at night between 8:00 PM TO 1:OOAM. I call this the Virginia Mullet time zone. Beside, Ice Cream on the pier dose not have to work as hard to keep one cool! Stay tuned!! Tuesday, June 24,2003 Pointer update! At 2:00 pm today, wife and I got a break and went swimming at the state park at Fort Fisher. Minnows and Swimmers everywhere. Warning! Toward the end of the yesterday, two more nice sized Black Drum were delivered to our shop. Thanks!! With them, reports of large Sheephead fish being caught off the Kure Beach fishing pier. Other than this report, visitors are not faring to well in catching fish from the shore here. Many have given up and are now soaking up SPF 15 and sunrays. The ocean water feels great according to a family of 30. Yep 30!! Stay tuned! Monday, June 23,2003 Fishing reports are slim catches to no fish at all. Stay tuned! From here it looks like Kure Pier has about a dozen long anchor rods at the very end. Kingfish are most likely to be in the area. Spanish, Bluefish and Flounder are still around also. While doing yard maintenance early, I did see a most beautiful innocent event! Female toddler running back to her beach cottage in her birthday suit. This little brown hair beauty was wearing nothing but a big HAPPY SMILE in the warm sunshine! Stay tuned! Saturday, June 21, 2003 Update 8:45 pm!! Bluefish reports one customer. 1:00 PM On this first weekend of NO RAIN in quite a while, all lodging establishments appear to be filled with beachcombers. Parking lots are filling up so if you decided to come to the beach today, be prepared for a crowed of folks. (Weekdays show many vacancy.) Many 4 wheel drives are also roaming around today. The fishermen that have stopped in are asking for live Minnows in hopes of catching Summer Flounder. Yesterday Kure Pier had over a 100 people on her deck. Stay tuned! Friday, June 20,2003 I am back! Heavy raindrops are hitting the road outside the shop again. The drought of 2002 is officially over in may areas of the state as record rain surpluses mount up. While I was out, gentleman from the U.S. Coast Guard wrote in and mention he heard of a few Kings on Kure Pier being caught this past week. Bluefish and menhaden, a hi count bait fish nicknamed "Pogie Fish ", have been seen also. Here is what he said about the Sabiki rigs. " The Sabiki rig is best used around here to catch grass shad around the pier. You drop it beside the pilings and move it up and down a few times, then move it up a couple feet and do the same thing, all the way top the top. Small black bass, pins and sea perch will hit it, and sometimes blues and Spanish. Like "I" said though, we mostly use the to get grass shad for bait." Well thank for that input and lets all give it a try. I know I will. Sound like the Sabiki rig may be used to catch live bait for King Mackerel fishing! Stay tuned! Tuesday, June 17,2003 Want to thank the gentleman who gave his catch of Black Drum to my wife this afternoon. Yep! Black Drum is one of my top 5 fish!! Other news, Minnows and shrimp are catching Flounder and Pompanos in the surf. I have been recouping from bronchitis over the past three days and have been pretty much out of things. Feeling much better now! Now an update on that special rig that the high school students ask and we order on June 11 of this year. Sabiki rigs as the name on the package implies, have started to sell. This rig, which I know nothing about, looks like an upside down Christmas tree that servers as ones tackle. Spanish, Trout, and Pompanos are listed as the fish of prospect. Anyway I hope try this Item soon and to get back into the swing of things again. Wife just call a said the Black Drum and the rest of supper are on the table. Stay Tuned! Monday, June 16,2003 Summertime bronchitis has got the best of me. Doctor has me on some antibiotics. Therefore, I can not report what's going on pertaining to fishing. Do know that there are lots of folks here on their summer vacation. Stay tuned! Saturday, June 14,2003 10:00 PM. Well the beach was very crowed today, especially the north end of Carolina Beach. Lots of folk in. On the surf, reports do suggest that night time seems to be the best time to catch Croakers, Spots and Virginia Mullets. No moon burns to report either. 6:00pm Off shore fishing has been rewarding!! Large pretty Dolphins, "Mahi-mahis" gave a local boy a workout! Got Ben-Gay? Today the beach is loaded with fishing-rod-carrying four wheel drives. In fact, one of our contractors came looking for beach goods instead of work. Did not even recognize him in his tourist clothes. Imagine that!! Other folks are buying beverages, beach items and plenty of SPF 30 sunscreen. Very wise! This just in at 4:15 pm, Virginia Mullets and Croakers in Snows Cut. Stay tuned! Friday, June 13,2003 Update! Catching fish on surf and the Piers during the day is slow. Night time is the best for Virginia Mullets, besides its cooler. Several customers have gotten sun burns. Fishermen are catching Sharks and Skates but that's no fun. Activities, swimming surfing and wading in the water, are doing OK. For now, if I had the time, a nice ride on one of the Head Boats would be my choice. Snapper, Groupers, and Black Sea Bass make a bountiful meal and are great for freezer storage. This evening while picking up an order of scallops at local restaurant, I met a fishing customer who catches lots of Flounder. He was complaining that the upstate rains has hurt his Flounder catches. "Snows cut, the water looks like coffee!" Oh well, last year this time state was having a drought. Like the song says, "Be happy, ------ don't worry be happy!' Stay tuned! Thursday, June 12, 2003 This morning Karen and I visited the State Park at Carolina Beach. Walked out on the small river pier and discover the carcass of what I believed was a Garfish lying on the bank. (Technically the name is restricted to seven or eight species in two genera, Lepisosteus and Atractosteus, of the family Lepisosteidae). Anyway, "Gars" as the locals call them, look like the cross between a legless Crocodile and large scale river mullet. In the river, Pop-eye mullets were jumping all around. Something big might have been chasing these Pop-eyes or they just get a kick out of jumping out of the water. Maybe Gars were scaring them, they would me!! Needed a lure to find out. Several boats, 17 foot Jon boats to 21 foot Grady Whites, were scattered up and down the river. By 1:30pm several guest had arrived with fishing rods, surf boards and a kayak. Stay cool and drink plenty of fluids. C-yaw! Wednesday, June 11, 2003 (Back after a few computer problems.) Yesterday, the Atlantic Ocean was smooth. Very smooth! Today several folks bought drinks, bait, Ice and tackle. High school students taking advantage of the summer break stopped in and ask for a rig that's not common around here. So, what the heck. Called up the nice folks at Henrys tackle and we order the thing. Can't wait to give the rig a try. Stay Tuned! Monday, June 9,2003 Mix reports on "catching" fish. While fishing, Ken and his wife dodge the big rain showers here today. They came up empty handed catching fish. Fishing all night, two fishermen who are of the devoted breed, reported catching several dozens Spots and Skeets off the Kure Beach Fishing Pier. We call the Skeets - Skates. They came in again this afternoon and stocked up on Ice, Shrimp and Bloodworms. Afternoon thunder boomers are common from late May to late September. They are just like catching fish. "Unpredictable but, you do know that there out there some where!" Stay tuned! Sunday, June 8,2003 Rains put sad faces on many customers, A specially moms and children. Fish, frogs and ducks must be having a good ole time as dozens of folks try to pack up their vehicles and head back home. Fishing reports consist of many Spots and three foot sand Sharks. All else is rain! Temperatures are forecasted to hit the 90's this up coming week. That mean muggy! Therefore the beach water at 78 degrees will feel a cool fantastic! Stay tuned! Saturday, June 7,2003 Spot run on the north end of Pleasure Island. Nice size Spots. Some of our guest fishermen are heading back there after a lunch. Winds have picked up again. Rains forecast is 50% today, 30% tonight and 25% tomorrow. Just enough to frustrate one devoted sun worshipper. Stay-tuned! Friday, June 6,2003 On this D-Day anniversary, folks are beginning to arrive at the beach. Stay Tuned! Thursday, June 5, 2003 Groupers, Sharks, Kings, Red Snappers, Flounders and Dolphins "Mahi-mahis" top the shop talk today, Assuming seas were not to ruff for these land lovers as they enjoyed there boating and fishing adventures. Me? Wife has me here on land moving our furniture back into our home. Stay-tuned! Wednesday, June 4, 2003 Well the rains did not seam to bother the fish today, getting wet that is. Fisherman reports that he landed a "just than less" legal size Flounder on a Got-cha plug along with several Bluefish. I experienced the same last year on my plug. Pompanos, Virginia Mullets and Red Drum are also showing up and down the beach and on the Kure Beach fishing pier. Stay tuned! Tuesday, June 3, 2003 Update! Its fighting Bluefish on the pier. 1:00pm.Today, the south side of the Kure Beach Fishing Pier had several folks lined up fishing. Most likely, Spots, Spanish, Kings and Virginia Mullets were out there and migrating back to the north. Fishing piers have always had a way of bunching fish up like this, people to! Other places along the beach were fishermen, swimmers and sun bathers. The winds are off shore and gentle. It starting to get HOT again! Stay tuned! Monday, June 2, 2003 Well today we did get two reports. One was from a gentleman who was 84 fish shy of his daily goal. 16 , 8-11 inch Spots is a far cry less than the 100 Spots he caught last October. He was telling me that the worms were not as long as last falls but they did OK. In the summer time its hard in getting these "Blood suckers down from the cold marsh waters of Nova Scotia, Canada. The other report was from the Coast Guard. Gentleman from the local LORAN station (the four tall towers right of Snows Cut Bridge as you come onto our Island) saw our site, called in and gave us a complement. Loran is a navigation system of towers around the world that aid in marking the location of ship and air planes. GPS systems are becoming the popular primary system of location. GPS works using satellites. Thanks sir! All else seems quite with a little "q". Many of the Motels are low on occupancies. So come on down! Remember summer is not just for weekends!! Stay tuned! Sunday, June 1, 2003 Thunder boomers were in and out last evening. Lightning and hail top off last night's talk of the shop today. Many of my nieces and nephews along with my sisters were here on their first summer vacation. Our guest that are down for the week are taking advantage of R&R and leaving their fishing rod alone. Beach goers are back and happy now that the sun is back. We will get back to you later. Stay tuned! Saturday, May 31, 2003 Pompano and high winds were the reports today. Low pressure over Ohio has caused severe winds today. At times beach goers found it very uncomfortable during the sand blast wind gust! Carolina Beach Fire Department had a training drill burn last night. I do not believe that it will be continued tonight. Friday, May 30,2003 WOW! "Schoooooooooooools out, for, Sum-Mer!" as the song goes. Folks are everywhere! Fishermen are in and they are rejoicing in their time off. Skate fish are back along with summer Dogfish. Folks get upset when they land these fish but heck, this just goes to shows that there is life in the ocean. I will let you know when I here the popular edible fish making their grand showing, like the Spanish our guest in number 2 caught. Our bloodworm prices have dropped to $3.90. That was the price when J.T. and Harold worked the Canada to the Carolinas route during the late 80's and early 1990's. Kure Beach Fishing Pier has a small fishing tournament going on for the physical challenged. Stay tuned! Thursday, May 29, 2003 Stocking up the shop and spring chores have keep us active around here. Many a new visitor in town today, some down for the whole week! Stay tune! Sunday, May 25, 2003 9:00 pm Our magician from Rowan County stop by and reported that he caught an 18 in Bluefish and several nice size 15 to 20 inch Black Drum. Oh well, I owe my self some time off. This afternoon, a customer reported that Pompanos were caught off north Kure Beach. 4:00pm Well it turned out to be a nice Holliday. Spots, Bluefish and Kings made the reported catches today. The beach was not as crowed "here" as it was last year. Fishing, kits flying, sun bathing, swimming and football games on the beach rounded out the activities today. Stay tuned! Saturday, May 24, 2003 7:00pm Got a report of many Black Drum caught in Snows Cut today. If confirmed then I' am going a fishing! Snows cut was dug in the early 1900's. Old timers tell me that it was dug with coal burning steam shelves and not dredging machines. 3:15 pm Well it's a beautiful Saturday in Kure Beach. Lot of locals from Wilmington are dropping in. New combos, line and tackle are just a few items folks are asking for. It seems good to be back in the shop. One 20 inch Bluefish was the only keeper a fisherman from Virginia showed. At 2:30 pm Kure Pier had several dozen folks on her deck. The pier looks clean, nice and long has it routes out over the crystal blue Atlantic. Stay tuned! Friday, May 23, 2003 At the hardware store today, I met one of Kure Beach's town workers. (I will be glade when these unexpected hardware store trips cease), Anyway Billy told me that his friend caught his first Flounder, a 5 pounded, on a frozen minnow in the south Kure Beach's surf. Other fishermen are asking when will our shop return to it's regular hours. Since our carpenters go home on Fridays, I said "Hopefully today!" I remind them that we are a mom and pop business and we have to assist our carpenters in all the errands and odd jobs that cost time and money. The work they are doing now is on our house. Nice to be missed! :) Stay tuned! Thursday, May 22, 2003 Fishing reports have taken a back seat so far this season. Business and now home repairing have taken up all available time. Please hang in there with us! Thanks, Gilbert Alphin. Saturday, May 17, 2003 Well I will be an optimist today and not lie. No biting insects today. Winds never laid below 20 knots. Gust were up to 40 knots at times. All out of the northeast. Called up the friendly folks at the Kure Beach Fishing Pier and the reports was a few Virginia Mullets now and then top with plenty of fresh air from the northeast. Another note, wife and I spent our day moving out of our house so all the 1940's oak windows may be replaced by our construction crew this up-coming rain forecasted week. Wonder if these new vinyl windows will last till the 2060's? Stick around! Friday, May 16, 2003 Spots
are in the news along with Bluefish and Virginia
Mullet. Bloodworms are in demand
again. We are trying to wrap up resetting up our apartments. Remodeling ,
refurbishing or restoring is very time consuming. Our 2003 fishing goods are
arriving. Stay tuned. |
