Saturday, November 24, 2007 Brisk cold northeast wind hits Kure Beach with chilling effects. Fewer than expected fishermen have been in our shop today. Weather temperatures this week have been up and down. With this, we wish to conclude this years "Daily Fishing Report". As part of "His Blessings" for the year, many freezers were filled with all sorts of fish. We wish everyone happy Holidays and the best for a prosperous New Year. I hope to make some software upgrades over the winter so folks may see more of our Beautiful Beach and Establishment. So for now, so long! We're already looking forward to next year! For Lodging inquires for the winter months, please give us a call! [ 800-458-5752] Our shop will be closed, but Karen and I (Gilbert) will be close by. See-Yaw! Friday, November 23, 2007 Yesterday we had several fishermen and their families come in for a warm wonderful Thanksgiving Day Celebration. Air temperatures were in the mid seventies. Today, a cool front came thru and cooled everything. Sand Flees and Shrimp are catching Virginia Mullets. I have not heard of any Spots catches. Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.05 - $3.17 for regular. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Wednesday, November 21, 2007 Locals are getting some time off to enjoy the surf. I see the sea water temperature is up 2 degrees. Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.05 - $3.17 for regular. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Tuesday, November 20, 2007 Local oysters are in. Not many fishermen in today. Stay tuned! Many hoping to catch enough to finish filling their freezers. Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.05 - $3.17 for regular. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Saturday, November 17, 2007 You heard the gentleman sing the song about "Margaretville" and how he finds a brand-new tattoo? Well, welcome to Virginia Mulletville, "second home of the 5 pound Speckled Trout that flocks in this time of year," reported one local fisherman. "On the bottom, Gotcha pugs saw some awesome action yesterday!" Kure Pier definitely was / is the place to be. Shrimp, Cut Mullet and Sand flees are doing good in catching many of these fine tasting fish. This morning, there was frost on the roof of our shop! This marks the opening signs of oyster steaming season, fresh collards and cornbread! One needs to check with Marine Fisheries before you head out in the marsh with hammer and five gallon bucket. Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.07 - $3.17 for regular. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Friday, November 16, 2007 Clear skies and sunshine. Not many folks down today. With yesterday's heavy rain showers, a local fisherman catches many large Virginia Mullets this morning. At 10:30 am, Kure Pier as a nice group fishermen at the very end of her deck. Looking 8 miles toward the east, one may see the Winter Queen Fishing Boat. Looks like see might be over one of the many shipwrecks of yesteryear. Along with shipwrecks and underwater rock formations, Trout normally hang out in places like these from late fall and into early winter. Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.07 - $3.17 for regular. The Whiting are coming!" is the call made by many fishermen. Sand flees are the number one bait of choice for these big pleasant tasting saltwater fish. Several fishermen are telling me, underneath Kure Pier is a good place to dig for Flees. Wind chill on the surf is not as cold as yesterday quoted one fisherman. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Sunday, November 11, 2007 Cool breeze had many fishermen with their wives looking for a wind protection today. I recommend the Carolina Beach State Park. There's more protection there when the winds are coming from the northeast. Virginia Mullets are rolling in more and more. Sand flees seem to be doing the trick! Only problem, there's not that many in the surf. Our frozen Sand flees, ones we sell in our shop for $3.00 per cup, are doing okay! When thawed, they look fresh and delicious, that is, from a fish's point of view. Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.09 - $3.17 for regular. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Friday, November 9, 2007 I am back!! Other than the former hard drive off our 2001 computer, we now have a new computer. I found out the 2006 DVD player, IDE- 2005 Hard Drives plus the 1.44M Floppy A: drive are ALL being phased out. Manufacture's tech support tells me, by 2009, those parts may not even be sold anymore. I guess the power cord will still be around! Anyway, Happy Birthday to someone special! Fisherman reports artificial lures like Hopkins and Diamond rigs are hauling in some big Bluefish in Snow's Cut. Some are up to 27 inches in length! SUPERB!! I have never eaten any Blues over 20 inches, they tell me fish this size are very strong tasting. I do not know. If I can get away, I will give it a try. Should I have the same fortune they did, I will be sure to cut the head half off to bleed the fish while making sure I don't get bit! Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.09 - $3.17 for regular. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Wednesday - Thursday, November 8, 2007 We are thankful for the many Bluefish filets one of our guest left for us. Many are good sized. The cold front that passed through last night was not that cold on the street, but with the northeast wind blowing, one had to wrap up real well to stay on the surf. Stay tuned! Gasoline $3.05 - $3.11 for regular. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Tuesday, November 6, 2007 Election Day - KURE BEACH 2007! Weather today is very nice! Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Monday, November 5, 2007 Another beautiful day here in Kure Beach. Air temperatures made new flannel shirts and sweaters feel nice and warm in the clear, cool-crisp sunshine. Bluefish reports are still coming in. Not as many as last week, perhaps this is due to the lesser number of fishermen. Today, Karen and I had a number of out of shop chores to attend to. We plan to be back in the shop on Tuesday. Stay Tuned! Gasoline $2.99 - $3.06 for regular. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Sunday, November 4, 2007 Bluefish continue to mount up in many coolers as everybody welcomes the beautiful long-over due fall weather. Yesterday, one of our guest families hooked and reeled in a heavy 72 inch in length Bull Shark. After the photo shoot, the big fish was released back into the water with the applause of more than thirty people cheering on. Stay Tuned! Gasoline $2.98 for regular. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Friday, November 2, 2007 UPDATE 8:30 pm: I just walked out onto the beach in front of the Blue Marlin Apartments. I noticed Kure Pier did not have many folks on her deck nor did I see any lights of fishermen on beach. Stars were starting to come out. The beach looked normal after a strong northeast wind blow. The sand-drop-off on the beach was located one foot east of the lifeguard stand extending down about 25 inches running north and south as far as the eye could see. 2:00 pm Kure Pier continues to have Spot runs! Folks are coming in wearing heavy overalls or hunting jumpsuits with toboggans and gloves. "Winds are from the east-northeast and really whipping out there!" reports one group of fishermen. Sputniks anchors and # 8 sinkers are in big demand from surf fishermen. These winds are most likely from TS Noel, 900 plus miles southeast of Kure Beach, USA. * Update!! The reason for our delay in getting out the DFR is, our 2001 computer's CPU's Fan failed and this may have stressed our motherboard beyond repair. BIOS temp warning should have shut the computer off but that was not the case today. Stay tuned! Gasoline $2.92 for regular. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Wednesday, October 31, 2007 Fresh load of two pound Popeyes came in this morning. Our good friend and commercial fisherman said many inch and three quarter thick "bronzed colored" Spots are being caught way offshore. Scores are running around fourteen inches long. Water temperatures there are 69 degrees in the deeper ocean water. Last week's massive "onshore" Spot run favored the smaller Summer Spots of Summer. Perhaps with sea water temperatures in the surf dropping, one fishing on the Piers and Surf will soon find the same fortune. Stay tuned! Gasoline $2.84 - 2.89 for regular. Today's tide report @ Frying Pan Tower Tuesday, October 30, 2007 Very cool temperatures this morning. Automatic AC/Heater was running when we got up. The tragedy at nearby Ocean Isle Beach (click) has taken an emotional toll on us. 26 years in the Kure Beach Fire Department can never prepare one for that type of incident. That being said; Update 3:00 pm: Canal Drive in Carolina Beach floods at high tide. Northeast winds and that time of the lunar month are the cause. 10:30 am Spots made up 99.443%, (+ or - .001) of this weekend's fish catches. One of our guest family's caught more than 350 of these fine tasting delicacy. For dinner, they went and cooked up a big Spot feast! As one knows, fish do not mind getting wet when it rains! 7:00 am: No reports at this hour. Southeast winds moving around 15 knots have some beautiful waves coming onshore this morning. Several tents and tarps are seen all along the coast. Little bit of sea grass is still on the beach but I have not heard anybody reporting this interfering with their fishing.
