Wednesday, August 30, 2006     Few fisherman are down. A weather scare is happing over the "inland" news media. Local "Emergency Management Systems" officials are monitoring the weather south of us. Monday, August 28, 2006    Guest couple fishing on a charter boat got to see some fish caught today. Grouper, Skates and many others.     Right now, we are watching the tropic. Sunday, August 27, 2006     Happy Birthday to someone special!     A real, reel treat today. Gentleman came in after church with a fairly new Diawa fishing reel. He had it all apart. When he turned the bail assembly the handle would turn, yet turning the handle would not turn the bail assembly.  After studying this strange phenomena, I added some new Penn lube to the rear gear box, unscrewed the bail assembly nut and added new lube on the main baring and bail shaft then re-assembled and wo-la. Thursday, August 24, 2006    Finally some good news!  We walked out on the beach tonight and we saw several fisherman gathered around the fish cleaning table on the Kure Beach Fishing Pier. Yesterday, the bay south of Fort Fisher was beautiful. A glass-covered-sea for over a mile. Rain showers have fallen off and on over the past two days. Surfers are enjoying a less crowed beach. Thursday, August 17, 2006    Fishermen are coming in and reporting that the Kure Beach Fishing Pier is producing come good sized Flounders.     Minnows and Shrimp make some of the best baits. "Also try using fish guts",  quotes one fisherman.  "The gizzards and flounder bellies of the fish works well". Wednesday, August 16, 2006     Yesterday, we had some fishermen reporting that Popeye Mullet Minnows are coming back strong. "Dredge pond down from the Carolina Beach State park has many".     Rules since 911 have become enforced along the US Army Buffer Zone. Here one can go into the dredge pond by boat without any violations, yet it is considered trespassing if you walk along the banks of the pond. Monday, August 14, 2006     Kure Beach Fireman shares his catch of King Mackerels. Blue Marlin guest enjoyed fishing off of Southport. They chartered a private boat. Their captain put them in a school of Spanish Mackerels. Many were landed. Red Flags were on the surf this afternoon. Not for sure, but I suppose it was due to the shortage of lifeguards. Sunday, August 13, 2006     Rains over the weekend slowed the number of fishermen down for us. Spot, Virginia Mullets and Bluefish reports did come in over the weekend. Beach did have a crowed of people. Most of these people were sun and water fun patrons. Crabbing as picked up in popularity. Friday, August 11, 2006     Yep! It has been a while. Reports are running about the same as last week. We did here one or two stories that were out of the ordinary. 1. Tarpon hooked from shore then jumping out of the water only to break the 99 cent tackle. 2. Several tourist have come in wanting to by a "rod n reel combo" that can catch a big two hundred pound Shark, yet unwilling to spend more than $30. So you may see why the daily fishing report took a break this week. Best reports were from the children catching their first Spots and Croakers! Weather folks on the radio reported that, so far, yesterday was the hottest day of the year.  We have persons coming in for bait, yet our sun screens sales are doing okay.  Folks it is HOT-HOT out there, especially when the wind not blowing. Tuesday, August 1, 2006     I have been away from our web site for a few days. Sunday, a local fisherman came in and showed us, not just one but TWO, large doormat sized Flounders. He used his home made "Carolina Rig". That's a hook, line, slip sinker and an optional cork. That day, he fished the Rock-Wall, riverside with live minnows.    Monday other parents were happy about the Spots their children caught. "Catch and release what's not eaten"! is the "Listen to what your Mama says" motto!. Today's phase is "Shuuue, it's hot, it feels like it's 105 degrees outside". Stay tuned! Friday, July 28, 2006     It must be kids week for catching fish. Several "little ones" are discovering the joy of catching Spots, Croakers and Virginia Mullets.  Also, ghost crab watching is a popular night time activity. "Sharks, the little ones are cute", as one youngest quoted. I asked, "What are you going to do when you catch a Shark?" NC Fisheries rules allow only 2 Cobia per day, 33 inch minimum length.  Live Bloodworms are being requested at this time. Wednesday, July 19, 2006     Tourist reports that an approximately 125 pound Tarpon was hooked on Kure Pier yesterday evening. Looking with his binoculars from his vacation unit, he could see a rod bending of fisherman fishing at the end of the pier. He venture out to speak with the fisherman who released the beautiful animal.  In the meantime a big Shark was hooked by another fisherman and released.     Virginia Mullets are being caught by a Clinton City business man staying south of the stop light. Friday, July 14,2006      A blonde hair beautiful girl reports that a 6 foot Shark was landed and released by fisherman off Kure Beach. Lifeguards had someone to come and get the shark which was latter released about 200 yards offshore. That's a first for me.  Black Drum and Virginia Mullets are back in the news. Thursday, July 13, 2006     The past couple of days, fishing reports have stopped. Not many experienced fishermen have come by. Wednesday I did see a local fisherman cleaning a large Red Drum and several 20 inch or so Flounders. He had been fishing in a "secret" waterhole somewhere in Buzzard Bay. That south of Fort Fisher's boat landing, pass Zeke's Island, cross over the cribbing, head south, travel for 1,500 yards along the rock wall, then turn left toward old Corncake Inlet. Friday, July 7, 2006       Spot run yesterday sparked an interest in our artificial Bloodworms. This happened after a heavy rain shower passed over. Thursday, July 6, 2006     Boat fisherman fishing Snows Cut catches Two, four pound Flounders off of Mud Minnows.  Dark Rain showers came in this afternoon and cooled things off quite a bit. Tuesday, July 4, 2006   Happy Independence Day!     Family man with a chuck-wagon trailer (a mobile kitchen with hot and cold running water) behind his SUV enjoys a wonderful day on the south of the Island. His son and daughter enjoyed catching 18 inch Sharks and Croakers. "The scenery was fantastic!" Many other families are down get the best of both fishing a swimming. Monday, July 3, 2006     Several fishermen have come in reporting that Black Drum and/or Black Sea Bass have been caught off of the Kure Beach Fishing Pier. Flounder catches are starting to pick up in the bay. Sizes run from 10 to 20 inches. Fisheries requirements are 14 inches minimum length and 8 per person per day.  Stay tuned!
