Tuesday, November 19, 2013 Very large Virginia mullets are being caught on pier and surf. Yesterday's summer like weather is gone today! Bathing suits on the beach were seen Sunday and Monday. Saturday, November 9, 2013 7:00am Happy Birthday to someone special!! Winter clothing is mandatory this morning. Kure Pier has about 30 folks fishing in a cold mild northeast wind. Spots, Red Drum, Virginia Mullets have been biting off and on all week. Last night, fisherman came back to get stronger tackle. Thursday, November 7, 2013 Fisherman returns to report the Shrimp he bought from us landed many nice-sized Virginia Mullets. "My friend caught a 22 inch Red Drum off the same shrimp"! Carolina and Kure Beach Fire Departments had a two story house fire next to the NC Wildlife Boat parking lot in Carolina Beach. That's at the east end of Snow's Cut. Wednesday, November 6, 2013 According to one fisherman, Spot Runs are happening about every 7 hours or so. Over the weekend, Bloodworms were in short supply everywhere. Winds today are comings out of the Northeast. A very light shower of rain fell about 30 minutes ago. It only lasted about 15 minutes. Stay tuned!  Local Tides, Gas Price $3.14 and up!

Monday, November 4, 2013 According to fishermen on the beach, winds are coming out of the northeast around 10 knots, seas are rolling, temperature with the wind chill factor is around 40 degrees. "Our" :) Shrimp and Cut Mullet caught several keeper sized Red Drum over the weekend plus one more this morning. Last week's southwest wind and warm weather did not appeal to the local fishermen. Tuesday, October 29, 2013 Warmer weather returned yesterday. One fisherman was dressed in summer fashion as he caught more 18 inch Virginia Mullets using Shrimp and Sand flees. Yesterday, winds were very calm over a flat sea. Stay tuned!  Local Tides, Gas Price $3.26 and up!

Sunday, October 27, 2013 Fewer and fewer fishermen yet the fish keep making a splash! Fisherman using Shrimp catch two Red Drum, a 25 inch keeper and releases a 32 inch big one, 14 Flounder, only 6 were keeper, and a couple of 18 inch Virginia Mullets. Winds yesterday blew 5 or more knots switching back and forth Northeast to Southwest. Our commercial fisherman has a load of Mullet coming in today. Friday, October 25, 2013 UPDATE 5:30pm. "We had an experience! Something stripped over 100 yards of 65 lb braided line off my son's reel. Then, the salted mullet you sold us caught a 32 inch Red Drum, then we started catching Trout off the same mullet! Lots of them. After that, a five foot Shark came in very shallow splashing hard. The fin came way out of the water. We were fishing in front of our oceanfront rental, 10 blocks south of the Kure Beach stoplight!" 8:30am A stiff 15 knot wind coming out of the Northeast had one prospector freezing before dawn. "Spots just love this type of weather." This morning a nice load of Shrimp came in. There were no price increases. Winds at 1:45pm are blowing from the Northeast around 12 knots. Thursday, October 23, 2013 GOOOOOOOOD COLD MORNING! After sunrise, our thermometer read 43 degrees. At 8:20 am, 5 knots winds gently switching back and forth from the northwest and northeast directions. Weather stations in Wilmington report 45 as the morning's low. The only folks we saw on the surf were sunrise watchers. Kure Pier had about 15 fishermen. Today, Bloodworms are our biggest seller. Wrap up, stay warm and have a good day! OH! Tuesday, October 22, 2013 Well I am back home. Caught an out-of-town bug. All's well. Over the past weekend, Carolina Beach held a fishing tournament in Carolina Beach. At night, on the shore, both green and red glow sticks are seen on the tips of dozens of fishing rods. Click here to see tournament results. Many of our fishermen were disappointed with the southwest winds blowing all weekend. Today, fisherman reported yesterday's north wind blew in 5 Red Drum at the abandon Dow Nickle Intake Pipe. Thursday, October 17, 2013 Locals in Kure Village catch one humongous Blowfish, the first Blowfish I heard this season. Bluefish are bigger this week than in the past two weeks. Spots, Croakers, Virginia Mullets and yes, the dag-gone Pinfish are rounding out others catches. Southend fishermen in Fort Fisher are catching Red Drum, 15 to 32 inches in length. Remember the keeper size is limited to 18-27 inches per person per day. Red Drum this size cut in 2x4 inch fillets are delouses fried the Southern Calabash way. Winds blowing steady from the south around 8 knots. Tomatoes are still coming in. No frost in site as folks prepare for a big fishing tournament this weekend. Stay tuned! Sunday - Monday, October 13-14, 2013 Wonderful day off yesterday, family reunion!! Today, winds are blowing from the northeast around 10 knots. Kure Pier has about 40 fishermen on her deck. Got Ice? Sport fisherman from Gastonia is catching Bluefish. "Gulp bait with a yellow cork next to the 3/0 Eagle Claw hook is working good"! He is hoping for a Trout. Saturday, October 12, 2013 Kure Pier has a nice crowd of folks today. Couples are enjoying the beach weather. Many are fishing for the first time. Friday, October 11, 2013 2 PM Update: Big Spots runs off and on! 9:30am: This fisherman comes in to get his bait this morning. Nothing unusual, Bloodworms, Shrimp, Ice and Squid. I asked, "How's fishing"? He responds with a quick answer, "They are running late!" and out the door he goes! Man what an optimist! Couple comes in to renew ' her ' licenses. Why? "Because ' he ' caught an 18 inch Bluefish in the surf yesterday". Seas and winds are very calm this morning. Two boaters, a half a mile out, are heading south. Thursday, October 10, 2013 Spots Runs are back. Many fishermen are enjoying Kure Pier. Winds seem to have slackened today. Spanish Mackerel are being caught but most are too small. Wednesday, October 9, 2013 New fishing supplies came in today. Spanish Mackerel and Spots are being caught on Kure Pier. Live and Artificial Bloodworms are catching the Spots. Some are catching Spots two at a time. More Outer Banks Fishermen arrived today. One fellow was very upset because he had paid his company's third quarter federal and state taxes online without any hitches. Tuesday, October 8, 2013 Stokes County fisherman reports, "Wave must be eight or more feet high. Number six sinkers are not holding at all. At hi tide, water is splashing over rocks at Fort Fisher's Battle Acre". He too is a fan of the "Daily Fishing Report". Thanks Chief! During the night, temperatures dropped along with heavy rain showers. Many folks have wrapped up in heavy clothing and rain gear. Other are enjoying fresh hot coffee. Monday, October 7, 2013. Yesterday I had a very interesting conversation with a fisherman Randolph County. He reported he keeps up with our daily reports. He and I spoke of his favorite fishing products and favorite fishing spots along Kure Beach. The Big Game Fishermen went home. However he only had the two Red Drums he caught on Thursday. Fisherman staying at the Southend of Ocean Dunes did well this morning. 15 Virginia Mullets, 2 Flounder with inches to spare and one 18 and half inch Red Drum. My wife and I dressed over 200 Popeye Mullets this morning. Salted them down and ready to sell. Trout are being caught now and then. Many fishermen that had planed to fish the Outer Banks are down. Saturday, October 5, 2013 Update: To a nice couple from Union County - Thanks for the Roses and Cheerwine! Spots are back in the news. Spanish continue to be caught. Warm weather has many folks coming out of their overalls. Surfboard-Longboard fishermen are have fun fishing offshore. <> Today we opened at 5:30 am. Folks it is very quite in Kure Beach. At 8:30 am very few vehicles have driven by our store. Kure Pier has about 50 people fishing her deck. Winds are dead calm. Sea is flat. I see three boats about a mile out heading toward Hi-Rock. Hi-Rock is about one and half miles out from Fort Fisher's Battle Acre. Got Bait? Friday, October 4, 2013 The Big Game Fisherman is back. This morning I introduced him to some more, BGFs from Florida. The new guys Outer Banks fishing hole got closed down due to the latest federal government shut down. These new guys released two five footer sharks last night. Our regular guy caught two keeper Red Drums last night. (18-28 inches). Spanish Mackerel are still being caught in the surf. Spot runs are occurring. Bluefish, Croakers, 20 inch Virginia Mullets and Skates are keeping many fishermen occupied. One fellow needs a little help. He is not at the right place at the right time. Thursday, October 3, 2013 Fisherman fishing the sandbar out front at low tide is nearing his daily limit of 15 Spanish Mackerel. Silver Diamond Rigs are HOT when it comes to Mackerel. With all today's catch, many fisherman believe the blitz yesterday were these Spanish Mackerel. Weather is very warm! Skies are clear! No frost in site. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 Well folks they have rolled out the barrels across Snows Cut Bridge. We are back to two lanes in the southbound traffic pattern. In front of the Blue Marlin Apartments, schools of fish were blitzing about 60 yards offshore. Birds too were diving in on the action. Many Spanish Mackerel were haul in on Kure Pier yesterday. This year's favorite tackle for Spanish is the Sea Striker Mackerel Tree Rig. Yes we are out at the moment but express carries are doing their best to get us re-stocked. Warm sunny weather continues. Monday, September 30, 2013 Many excited fishermen in our shop today. Folks from the Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia and the many points within. Weather is absolutely fantastic!! Clear skies. Winds blowing from the northeast around 5 knots. Today, we saved a brand new fishing reel. A little bit of beach sand can mess ups ones day. That is why you should spend the extra four to thirty dollars on a sandpike or fishing rod holder of your choice. Never lay a rod and reel on the beach, Never! Saturday, September 28, 2013 Salisbury fisherman looking for hooks larger than we normally stock. In the 72-a series, Eagle Claw did not stock # 5/0 or # 4/0 last spring. Kure Pier has around 40 fishermen on her deck. At 8:30am very few fishermen were spotted on the surf. Carolina Beach has an election coming up next month. Locals hoping for a price brake on Freeman Park Passes. Rule uses-to-be save $40 if one purchases a pass before April 1. Current passes slots are from January 1 to December 31 of each year. Friday, September 27, 2013 Spanish Mackerel and King Mackerel have been caught this week. Spots, Blues, Pompanos and Sea Trout reported by many fishermen fishing the south end. Coats, overalls and sweaters are back in style. News update,Snows Cut Bridge: NC Department of Transportation has October 1, 2013 as the start date of the north bound resurfacing. Wednesday, September 25, 2013 "Wearing them out!", reported one week long fisherman. Spots, Blues, Red Drum, Virginia Mullets and something cut a Pin Fish in half. Overcast skies today, not much wind out of the northeast. Yesterday's Jumbo Mullets are now cut and salted. Gas prices continue to drop. $3.24 spotted at one sited in Wilmington, NC. Monday, September 23, 2013 Happy Birthday to someone special. Just north of Kure Pier" an eight pound flounder was haled in off the surf . Pop-eye minnows from the surf were his bait. Another fisherman from the great state of West Virginia had a good day. Small sized, hard hitting Pompanos (10), Sea Trout (2) and Black Drum (4) all made a wonderful catch. Winds this afternoon are coming up from the southwest. Thursday night I notice the end of one of the old jetties sticking up out of the surf at low tide. Wednesday, September 18, 2013 Shrimp prices continue to rise. Base price in the spring was $480 per load, today price is $1,025 per load. Its the same shrimp folks! I noticed there's no one selling shrimp along side the roads. Spring and summer rains seem to have wash all the little hatchlings out of the marsh grasses. Word has it that the "Gulf Oil Spill" of 2011 killed off shrimp in the Gulf of Mexico creating a huge loss of hatchlings. After Labor Day, a local restaurant pulled shrimp off its menu. Other restaurants have shrimp.

Tuesday, June 16, 2013    Fishing reports have picked up constantly over past week and a half. Lady fishermen seem to have the advantage when it comes to catching fish. Four, Five and Six plus pound Black Drum are pretty common amongst the women. Kure Pier fishermen are reporting Bluefish, Spots, Croakers and Butter-Pecan Ice Cream as favorite catches. Sunday, May 26, 2013    MEMORIAL DAY 2013    More "SEAL" sighting today. Fisherman are getting stuck in Freeman Park today. Wednesday, May 1, 2013    Cooler than normal spring weather has made fishing and beach activities uncomfortable. Kure Pier has been under-repairs this spring.
