Wednesday, November 25, 2015 10:00 am Local fishermen continue to catch good sized Virginia Mullets. Yesterday's ten minute walk on Kure Beach showed promising results. Other news: Local Animal Control officials are in action. Several residents are having Opossum and stray cat issue. Tuesday, November 24, 2015 3:30 pm Today's catch of Virginia Mullets are not as wide as last week's catches. Many are the same lengths, 10 - 18 inches long. Once the sun passed our front store's window, our heater came on. 11:00am Good Morning, Yesterday, there were several groups of fishermen scattered up and down Kure Beach. Wind chill continued to play a major factor to one's comfort level. No one stopped by to report any catches. Monday, November 23, 2015 Clear skies with a sudden drop in temperature. Biggest factor, the winds have picked up. Fishermen are asking for toboggans. Over the weekend a fisherman reminded me of how important it is to keep used or worn out fishing line away from wildlife and domesticated animals. "I've seen fishing line, wrapped around a duck, harm the animal". Gas prices continue to drop across the county. $1.95 was posted at one station in Wilmington. Stay Tuned! Saturday, November 21, 2015 Two non-keeper Flounders, 40 Virginia Mullets, 12 to 20 inches in length. "I'm done for the day" quoted another fisherman. Mud Minnows and Sand Flees are popular baits. Friday, November 20, 2015 9:PM UPDATE Wide Virginia Mullets, several with 9 inch girts. Length are 16-18 inches. This shape is a first for me. 4PM UPDATE: What appeared as a possible Whale's blowhole-splash (yes every 5 years or so) turned out to be no whale at all. From our store, what I saw turned out to be an offshore swimmer, 600 yards out swimming in his wet suit. It wouldn't surprise me if he, or she, spoke Portuguese. Other news: Chatting with a local fisherman, he and his buddies are forecasting a longer than normal Virginia Mullet Season. Some have caught more than 4 dozen over the past 36 hours. The extended forecast is based on warmer than normal seawater temperatures. (Current waters, 69 degrees) 10am: One young disappointed fisherman reported, "Granddad caught a Trout, my uncle caught a Trout, I caught nothing". This morning we took a quick walk along Kure Beach's boardwalk. Next thing we knew, we were at the very end of Kure Pier. I must say, it has been over a month since I've walked all the way to it's end. Very nice! We were there less than 5 minutes when all at once, four fish were reeled in. Not the biggest fish I've ever seen nor to the fishermen who caught them, so the three Croakers and one Pin Fish were toss back into the sea. One Fat Pelican, (No. Not the one on Lake Park Boulevard, Carolina Beach) was sitting at his normal post. He, or she, has a very unique face. The bird smiles as thou he knows you. The same way your pet smiles at you when you come home. I recall a few years ago, a lady got cited because she held the Pelican the same way she holds her Pekinese pup. Her friend took a picture, unharmed. Two wildlife officers came along an cited her a violation $ penalty. Hey, It upset me too. :( Back to today's pier. The sloughs are back! At low tide, both north and south beaches have sloughs. After last's month's storms, it looks as if "time" has reshaped the surf back to its normal shape. From the sky, one may imagine someone using an ice cream scoop to reshape the edge of beach with the ocean thereby creating what we locals call "sloughs". Sloughs are 30 to 70 yards wide. They are separated by a short stretch of beach forming a mini-point, so-to-speak. Between the points, fish congregate due to the deeper waters and food sources. Thursday, November 19, 2015 This morning, heavy rains have fallen. By 1 pm, one fisherman stated, "Every bit of an inch or more of rain!". He also reported, "Yesterday, we cleaned twenty fish on your cleaning table. Thru back that many more. Keepers were 18 inch Virginia Mullets, couple of Trout, and several good sized Spots. The Black Drum were too small to keep". Very few fishermen are down this week, therefore, two of our bait supplies have called it a season. Stay Tuned! Wednesday, November 18, 2015 Quite fall day. Today our fish cleaning table saw some action. I missed seeing the fisherman therefore I am not sure what they caught. Based on fish-scale size, I am assuming Virginia Mullets or other like kind saltwater pan fish. Other news, today, very light sprinkles of rain fell off and on all day. This week, guest fisherman from Old Port, NC reporting heavy activity on Kure Pier. Seventeen Red Drum citations issued. To get this citation, Red Drum, must be 40 inches or longer AND released alive in it's native waters. Friday, November 13, 2015 Yep! Here is another nice story. Mud Minnows are offering a good fishing adventure for a grandfather and his grandsons. Today's count, 8 keepers Flounder. Out of state fishermen are having a good time, "Do Salted Mullet really catch fish"? "Yep, here is a free sample"! Kayak fisherman entered this weekend's bay tournament. He's hoping to place in the Special Trout Division. Red Gator Spoons and Salted Mullet is what I recommended. Today's 5 to 8 knot winds blew from the northwest. I see lots of fishermen on Kure Pier. Wednesday, November 11, 2015 Hay folks! Today joy and excitement have returned to our shop. Using Sand Flees, fishermen reported his neighbor caught several 20 plus inch Virginia Mullets. Kure Pier fishermen looking for heads-off shrimp reporting "Red Fish (Red Drum) are being caught at the very end of the pier. Using a rope attached to a heavy duty drop-ring-net, the fish are raised, de-hooked, then lowered and released back to the surface of the water. He reported "Over the past two days, 15 or more have been pull in. Many were keepers".By NC Law, all "Red Drum" outside the slot length of 18 to 27 inches, must to go back in the water. Tuesday, November 10, 2015 Today, very few fishermen were in our shop. Rain has ditches and water puddles topped off. Air temperature reached the upper 70's. Being slow, a friend and I took care of some overdue chores while Karen maned our shop. A trip to the New Hanover County Landfill is not a bad way to spend a few productive hours. When we got back home, skies and roads were all clear and dry. Kure Pier had fishermen fishing all along it's north side. Not as many as past weeks, but still an optimistic group of guys. Saturday, November 7, 2015 1:00 pm: Guest fisherman is enjoying his late fall fishing trip. Many of his Virginia Mullets are better than 18 inches long. Kure Pier and the beach has a smaller crowed than past weekends. Many fishermen brought their wives or girlfriends onto the beach for some warm end-of-summer like sunbathing . When I went onto the beach, several sand gnats annoyed me. Early am: Hello again, Something very special happened yesterday afternoon. A very kind fisherman came in our shop with a big smiled on his face and started laughing very hard. He reported he was here a few years ago to buy bait. This fisherman reported, "The last time I was in here an older gentleman was working the counter. I asked that man, 'Where are they catching all the fish?" Dad answered him holding his finger to the edge of his cheek saying, "IN THE MOUTH!". The fellow telling this story busted out laughing again. He said, "Now I think twice before asking this silly question". Along with many other good customers and love ones, my dad was called to heaven a couple of years ago. Stay Tuned! Wednesday, November 4, 2015 9:00 am One nice way to start your day off is by prayer accompanied by a good fishing report! :) Mud Minnows do great when it comes to catching Flounder. Our first customer, "We caught fish! I would like more of your salted mullets. This time, two please". This is what we like to hear$. Not only that, "We were the only ones catching fish!" (please note and forgive my current boast, just like fishing, things DO have a way to come back and bite-me.) His catch was nice sized Virginia Mullets, plenty of undersized trow-back Black Drum and plenty of undersized trow-back Flounder, along with many keeper Bluefish. Tuesday, November 3, 2015 11:30 pm No fishing reports today. However! Fresh Mullets just arrived!! Today, heavy rains continued. Across the Island, large puddles of rain water were everywhere. Some puddles over 2 acres wide. Pre-satruated grounds from last month's heavy rains have the ground water tables elevated. All ditches and storm water ponds are topping off. Carolina Beach Lake is topped out, but has not flowed over it's bank. 9:00 am Early this morning, 4:19am, we were awakened by heavy rains. At 8:30am everything is soaked. Off-year elections today. Monday, November 2, 2015 11:00 am Cloudy skies are back. Winds are clam. On their street-side-signs, two Motels are displaying "Close until next Spring" . Last night I contacted our commercial fisherman for his fresh catch of Popeyes Mullets. We will let you know when his catch comes in. Other "unofficial" reports! Last week's boat sinking in the Cape Fear River turned out to be as good as one could hope. No injures. "Reported" commercial tow was required to bring the overturned boat back to shore. Stay Tuned! Sunday, November 1, 2015 Hi Everyone, Today there is a new influx of fishermen. Many are from places like Fayetteville, Hickory and Raleigh. The Fort Fisher State Park is always looking good. Today, fishermen and families are stretched out all along it's clean-white sandy beach. Rod and Reels standing tall in the sand and in one's very on hands. Bluefish continue to be caught. Saturday, October 31, 2015 4 PM UPDATE Blues and more bluefish. Temperature is dropping, now rain is forecasted. 10:30am M avenue: Just making a conservative guess, Kure Pier has more than 80 folks fishing on her deck. Along the surf north to N avenue, 30 fishermen, with families, are fishing from the beach. Several folks enjoying homemade sandwiches. Toward the pier, florescent fishing lines projecting out to sea. Shining bright in the clear sunshine, lime green appears to be very popular. For my brief time out there, one 16 inch Virginia Mullet caught. Winds estimated 7 knots from the northeast. Friday, October 30, 2015 3:00pm Winds are coming from the northeast around 5 knots. Lots of fishermen have returned to the shores of Kure Beach. Of those I spoke with, all are from New Hanover County. While I was on the beach, two Virginia Mullets were pull ashore. Shrimp was the bait of choice. Just south of the M avenue crossover, two couples in their bathing suits, not wet suits - bathing suits, were enjoying the lime-blue waters. Folks they were all the way up to their chests. Thursday, October 29, 2015 6:00 pm Today and over the past two months, catching Virginia Mullets have been extremely active. Many are over 22 inches in length. As the sun starts to slip out of the clear blue sky, dozens of fishermen, beach goers and a jogger are enjoying the nice cool breeze along the clean-salty beach. There are two kinks to this scenic picture. One, make sure you have mosquito spray, two, there are two surfers surfing extremely close to Kure Pier. Not sure why, the Town of Kure Beach has rules of safety to protect sea goers from heavy-flying fishing tackle cast off Kure Pier. 1:00 pm Sunshine is back without any rain. Slight breeze from the southeast. Blueish-green sea waters are back. Fifty yards out, wave height's are 3 to 4 feet high. Between N avenue and the pier there 8 or more fishermen on beach. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 Folks it rained late yesterday, last night, during the night then sprinkled early this morning. At 9 o'clock this morning, surf fishermen were facing a strong south wind, ruff surf, heavy beach wash while sitting at the very edge of the vegetation line. Seas 5 feet. Tuesday, October 27, 2015 Update 4:15 pm Moderate rain showers have fallen most of the day. 10 am - Feast or Famine! That's today's stories. "We only caught one keeper Flounder, the rest of the time, peck, peck, peck on our fishing... "string". [Must have been a band of banjo fish? :) ] "We saw two other groups of fishermen. One lost a big Red Drum because they were scared of him, and another group of brave souls haul one in". At 9:30am a very stiff northeast wind with rain blowing. 50 yards out, waves are a little over 6 feet high, 40 feet apart then crashing and washing all the way up to the vegetation line. "At high tide there is no place to set a chair without being in the sea oaks" quoted one fisherman. Canal Avenue, Carolina Beach is flooded again. Many folks are staying warm and dry by staying inside. Others are packing up and heading back home to nice places like Buncombe, Davie, Randolph and Rowan counties. Stay dry everyone! Stay Tuned! Monday, October 26, 2015 Slow Monday morning. No Rain ! :) Fishing Reports: Spots are here. Bloodworms, Fish Bites and Shrimps baits all doing good.

Yesterday evening, Karen and I closed up shop for some R and R. Took a nice long walk in a park, had supper, then went to a picture show. Watched Tom Hank's latest role, "Bridge of Spies". Got home around 10:30pm . (By the way, okay movie. Spielberg left out some UN scenes but okay movie. Hopefully Steven will make a squeal "Bay of Pigs".) Next, somewhere south, around the old Fort Fisher Air base, Karen and I noticed several orange lights lifting up from the beach. Leveling off around 400 feet, slowly approached Kure Pier, then disappeared. Too quite for helicopters. Puzzling! My best guest, and only a guest, Japanese memorial lanterns. ....

Saturday, October 24, 2015 6:00 PM Fishing Reports: In the surf and Cape Fear River many fisherman are catching Sheep heads, Croakers and Flounder. Shrimp, Bloodworms, Mud Minnows and Salted Mullets baits of choice. Okay? I don't know if someone is just pulling our leg or reporting an unusual occurrence. 23 inch Red Drum hooked on a Bloodworm. There is no doubt the fish was caught and put into a cooler. The question is, "What size hook did fisherman use to hook such a large fish? The last time we hear of something like this was right after the bass, with a two pound cricket in his mouth, pulled the fisherman and his Jon boat up the waterfall. PIG OUT!! Yep! PIG OUT! Carolina Beach Fire Department held is annual delicious smoked Bar B Que today. 11 am to 7 PM, When my wife went to pick our supper up at 3:30pm, CBFD had sold out of it World Famous BBQ. :(

4:44am Kure Beach Fire Department gets dispatched to AM boat call. "Boat has sunk"! Coast Guard notified! Location, boat landing south end of Island, east ? west of Rockwall. First, seconded or third bays, (Buzzard Bay) OR Cape Fear River. "Shipping channel reported" take your pick guys! (sinking updated later) 5:30am we were released. Right now, unknown call. Back in town, fishermen are starting to stirring around. Yep! Beautiful planets in the nine o'clock positions. Check it out if your up! .............

Friday, October 23, 2015 - 7:15am HEAVY FOG in Kure Beach..... - .8:00 am FOG is GONE... - 5:00 pm Kure Pier is packed with fishermen! Winds, sea and temperature are pleasant. Biting flies are out. Spots caught at state park are huge! Fish bites and Bloodworms are doing their job hooking these delicacy fish. Many over 16 inches, bronzed sides. No surf fishing reports at this time. Oh! Thursday, October 22, 2015 UPDATE 7:30 pm Late this afternoon, I walked out onto the beach. From N avenue to Kure Pier, three blocks, there were approximately 30 folks fishing. (One pretty blonde girl was being serenaded by a kind gentleman with his guitar). One fisherman had half a dozen large "18 inch" Virginia Mullets in his cooler. Other fishermen were doing good. Sand Flees were the bait of choice. Shortly after, many 4 x 4 trucks started pulling up to our shop. Many plan to fish all night at the Southend. Oh, I almost forgot, many fishermen and I noticed river water mixed in with ocean waters. The big rains were two weeks ago and we are still seeing the side effect of all that fresh water. 11:45am Many throw backs, "We are catching them but they're are too small to keep" reported by three different sets fisherman. 7:00 am This morning, Karen and I enjoyed a twilight two-mile walk along the surf. On the falling tide, the firm beach sand offers a good calve workout. The slope of the surf going from the water to the vegetation line rises approximately 20 degrees. At the surf, Sand flees or Mole crabs were seen north and south of Kure Pier. Anticipating surf fishermen were preparing tackle and baits for an active day. Coming back we saw one fisherman with a Puffer Fish. Later, a paddle boarder made his or her way seaward beyond Kure Pier. The beach is relative straight and smooth. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 Wow!! What a Wednesday! I've heard everything - at least for the moment. Bare hand catching a 20 plus inch Flounder in the surf, to "seeing my catches sizes get larger and larger as time goes on" to, "Watching a Giant Red Drum snap my tackle, turn around in the surf, then wave his tail as to say, 'by-by fellow' !" Another, We just love your Salted Mullet, we have caught many Bluefish! -- Folks the best I can say is we love hearing the exciting sounds of Joy! There is so much ruff n' tuff stuff going on in the world, we don't even know how to be thankful. -- Okay! Winds are coming out of the north-northeast around 7 knots. Flounders, Bluefish and Puffer Fish reported today. Mud Minnow are getting low again as Flounder fishermen are finding success with these young, quick-darting-baits. Earlier today, fisherman and wife reported their Spot bait had a 2 inch bite mark in it's side. Taking advantage of the river's scenery, two couples renew all their CRFL fishing licenses for an adventure in the Carolina Beach State Park. I tell everyone traveling from our shop to go to the stoplight, turn right, don't drive over the speed limit and don't drive over 30 mph until you come to the dangerous 90 degree right turn. Then travel about four and half miles until you see the Carolina Beach State Park sign. Turn left, follow the road until you come to a large parking lot, go straight and park right next to the trees. There, you will see signage pointing to the nature trail going all the way to Sugar Loaf Mound. Take the west trail. Sixty yards down the trail you will be at the sandy banks of the mighty Cape Fear River. Watch out for Deer Ticks! Spray your self with something like "Cutters or Off " insects spray. Tuesday, October 20, 2015: 2:15 pm "If my wife had not seen this with her own eyes she would not have believed it!" Right after fisherman has baited, places rod in holder, he sits down in his chair right next to his lovely wife. Noticing what he first thinks is a big sting ray flopping in the wave wash, fisherman jumps up out of his chair and grabs up one big Flounder. 1:15 pm Here something we like to see! First time young adults getting their North Carolina Fishing Licenses! As time goes on, many fishermen move on to heaven. We are happy to hear how grand children found joy while fishing with their love ones. More Puffer fish reports. 9am Three fishermen returned from yesterday's adventures. I asked "How's the fishing? "Terrible, it must be the bait! Got anymore?" :) 8:30am Several 4 x 4 pickup trucks with long surf rods mounted on the front end were heading south. Kenansville, NC ( 90 miles inland) reported a frozen 32 degree low. 6 am Kure Beach Firemen were dispatched to Carolina Beach. Right after we were released, three star-bright planets were seen in the 10 o'clock position of the crystal-black sky. Meanwhile, Kure Pier and the beach north were deserted. Monday, October 19, 2015 Hi Folks! Today we are coming to you via Window's 10. Yep! Since Microsoft, our older printers and software became compatible with each other, we decided to upgrade. Our upgrade took 4 hours to complete.

Fishing Reports: 3:00 pm Winter weather is just weeks away! Today, 15 knot northeast cool winds filled with streaks of cold air are whipping inland. 9:30am This morning there were 4 people between N avenue and Kure Pier, a three block area. I was one of them. Kure Pier fishermen looked like Eskimos. I counted 15 or more. Gentleman from Florida called the drop in temperature with 15 knot winds, a blizzard. He is catching lots of Croakers and Virginia Mullets. Several fishermen are getting their lifetime Sportsman / CRFL licenses. The Bear Stamp portion has to be renewed each year. Special thanks to the kind couple who came back with too much change$ We are thankful for your honest kindness!! :) :) Guest checking out today reported three Flounders as follows: 18 inches, 17 inches and 15.5 inches. Another group of fishermen, and women, caught 25 Puffer Fish. Very cool morning. Last night our central heat came on. By 4 clock today, Kure Pier and the Beach together have less than 40 fishermen. Saturday, October 17, 2015 11:45 am Re-visited the beach mid morning. Winds blowing nice out of the north northeast, 15-20 knots. Over heard several folks chatting on their cell phones. One particular, "Lots of little stuff right now... at sunrise we got into several large Blues...". "Survivor star" fishermen from yesterday reported, "Strong Winds at 3 this morning had beach currents rushing south. Number 6 sinkers would not stay in the water". Walking north at water's edge, I saw one fellow's rod bent toward the ocean. Thinking he had a large Bluefish, everyone was happy as his large Flounder popped thru the surf suds. Next to the old Dow Plant Pump Site, the signage is incorrect. I will check with Kure Beach Building Inspections on Monday so corrections may be made. Back in the shop, one fisherman reports he is finding lots of bait at the Southend boat landing. Here, Squid, Mud minnows and Salted Mullet are in big demand . Stay Tuned! Friday, October 16, 2015 8:00 pm Big Carolina Beach Fishing Tournamentstarts at midnight. To note a contestant, a yellow hand band is worn by the excited fishermen. Earlier this evening, two fishermen, one had stared on the TV series "Survivor", came by. Thanks to my wife manning the shop, I was able to give these two a mini tour of our beach. 2:30 pm Grills and Smokers are in use! Fresh fish on an outdoor grill or smokers makes many at the table very happy. Biting flies are back. Mean ones too! Clear skies!! Yep-ea!! Thursday, October 15, 2015 2:00 pm. Early Afternoon Update: Half day charted fishing trip yields quite a few Bonitos. These fish are fantastic on a grill or smoker. Make sure you have a piece of tinfoil with about 5 ice pick size holes so the fats drains onto the coals. Onions, garlic, butter and lemons make one hearty meal. Several fishermen are back for Mud Minnows. Flounder are now showing up in high numbers. Blues, Spots, Croakers and Spanish Mackerel are common catches off Kure Pier. 8:30am Another beautiful sunrise. Winds are coming out of the north-northeast around 3 knots. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 UPDATE 1:30pm, Folks forgive me! Fisherman called in wanting to know if our live Mud Minnows had arrived. Yes! And indeed a very active bunch! 11:30am KURE PIER, USA: 11:30am As I type, Spanish Mackerel catches are occurring on Kure Pier. Reports say Dial Soap is a must as faithful fishing buddies fish and share the pier, side by side. And they do mean side by side. Literally! One King fish was reported along with many catches of Bluefish and several Pompanos. 7:30 am During the night of the second Tuesday-Wednesday morning of "each" month, Microsoft updates millions of computers across the U.S. of A. Ours was one of them. During last night's update, someone dress a big fish on our cleaning table. That's A - Okay! I found fish scales about 80% the size of a fifty cent piece. Not being a Sherlock Holmes, Watson, it looked liked the suspect, Red Drum, was 26.97 +- .02 inches long. The table was left clean and no fish's remains other than a few clean fish scales of evidence. :) Next: Yesterday I got an unusual fishing report: "Gilbert! Last night I just had to walk away from the beach. That Salted Cut Mullet would not stop catching Bluefish! I kept catching and throwing back until I ma-xed out on the size Blues I wanted. Tuesday, October, 13, 2015 LAKEWOOD, OHIO!! Your letter arrived, the day after Columbus Day. Sir thank you for your photos! RED FISH, 44 inches long, 40 lbs 32 inch girth! Now were are talking trophy sized Drum!! I'm putting your pictures up on our Bait Board Wall. Yes, your comments "... purchased your cut mullets... had quite a catch". Taking a wild guess, 12 minutes or better to hall this Giant in? Looks like your leader is 75 lbs test or better? Your fish looks very heathy! Good Job! New catches back on the table. Puffer Fish. These cute fish are showing up everywhere. De-lici-ous! Fishermen report cleaning these fish is like skinning a squirrel. "Take a sharp knife, lay the fish flat on his belly, cut him right behind the gills, but not through the bottom belly. Turn him over, place the head back on the belly as a handle, grab the inside meat with a sharp object or pliers, pull the skin off the body or pull the meat out of the fish". Monday, October 12, 2015 Fish CATCHING Reports. Fishing with sand flees, or mole crabs, depending on you choice of terms, new group of fishermen catch a very beautiful 24 and 3/4 inch Red Drum, right in front of the Blue Marlin Apartments. At that time, skies were clear and dry. So was the ocean water, only wet with bluish sea green saltwater. Other fishermen are coming in this morning for more Salted Mullets, Bloodworms and Mud Minnows. Right now we are out of Mud Minnows but new batch should be coming in soon.

Sunday, October 11, 2015 First, fishing reports!! All of our guest reported a good time catching fish. Fishing the southern end, several huge strikes for the Big Giant Red Drum Fishermen. "No landings but we haul in a 4 foot shark". Common comments by several customers and guest, "Its been fun this week, Can't wait to come back"!

HuuuuuGh! At church this morning, most of the congregation had water standing in their on yards. Some all the way into their living room's. Yesterday and into the night, Kure Beach Fire Department responded to many false smoke alarms. High humidity is tricking the sensors. After the big rains, gages are reporting 3.5 inches within a 90 minute period. 10 pm last night, Carolina Beach Lake spilled over onto Lake Park Boulevard. Not sure when the road reopen but by 10:am today, traffic was flowing. ( Right now I don't like using the word, "flowing".) Saturday, October 10, 2015 5 PM UPDATE! : ITS BACK! HEAVY RAINS. During the dryer part of the day, many fishermen were reporting many fish. Spots, Croakers, Pompanos, Bluefish, Black Drum, Virginia Mullets, Specked Trout, Shark, Red Drum, no Pin Fish. 10am : A bit busy this morning. Before going to the shop today, I walked out toward the beach. Very claim ocean. Waves were just under 18 inches high, 50 feet apart. Winds were 2 knots coming off the beach and heading out to sea. Skies are overcast and dry. Father and two sons came in looking for Fresh Cut Mullets. After last week's big storm, all we have is our world renowned Salted Mullet. These guys cleaned out our tray. The Dad reported at the southern end, yesterday, and all the way up to 11pm, they hauled in a "ton of Bluefish". Others fished Kure Pier. Pompanos and Black Drum were their catch. Friday, October 9, 2015 Mixed reviews this morning. "Many little catches but not many keepers" quoted one fishermen. "Once the sun comes up there is a big decrease in the number of strikes". Thursday, October 8, 2015 7:30am Pre-dawn sky showing lots of celestial bodies. No clouds therefore more stars and planets. A Fantastic Site! At sunset last night, our new guest fishermen, neighbors and I notice a few foam slicks between the beach and sandbar. We assume this is caused by all the fresh rain waters mixing with the ocean's water. In July, 2015 local Wect-TV 6 made comments regarding winds and currents enriching the sea waters. Hopefully today, Fort Fisher State Park will open up the beach access. It has been close since the heavy rains started in the lunar high tide season. Wednesday, October 7, 2015 8:30pm. New fishermen have arrived. Started fishing ASP. High tide. Catching was a bit slow. One or two Bluefish and one 14.5 inch Speckled Trout caught on Salted Cut Mullet. Beach is absolutely beautiful. No other fisherman around. Hopefully the Fort Fisher State Park will be back open tomorrow. Lake Park Boulevard is back open. 10:30am Sunshine is everywhere!! Kure Pier has folks all up and down its north side. Pier operator reported several 2.50 lbs Bluefish, several 1.50 to 1.6 lbs Whiting, Spots are running small, Black Drum. Speckled Trout are still here! Tuesday, October 6, 2015 11am. Beach and Kure Pier are starting to show signs of fisherman. So far, no rains today. School buses, with students, moving about. I'm guessing, two hour delay? South Carolina's 2015 Fall Flood, has brought pain and grief beyond comprehension. I have not seen any thing like this since 1989's Hurricane Hugo. Back then South Carolina did have a hurricane warning. This past weekend, no warnings of massive flooding and possible dam breakage issued. Monday evening! 7:15pm, October 5, 2015 Fishing report. While on their Honey Moon, new couple catch nice sized Virginia Mullets, Croakers and a Sea Turtle. They chose Carolina Beach State Park for it's beautiful senary, calmer waters and great fish catching history. And yes it rained 90 % of the time today. In fact its raining right now. OH! Here is a joke for all our good folks in law enforcement. State trooper stops dump truck operator for drive too fast in a 45mph speed zone. Trouper asks "Why the fast speed and what are you hauling?" Driver explained, "Sail boat fuel. Some of it got into my diesel tank this morning when loading up". Topper explained , "Well you don't show any placards on your truck and you don't have papers showing your cargo's contents. Besides it looks like you have lost your load. Monday, October 5, 2015 7Am: Breezy northeast winds with rains. Last night I drove our minivan down to the southern boat ramp. There I saw a gray and black Buck making his way through the salt marsh. Coming back I watch a Raccoon swim across a very large puddle of water that continued into the woods. Next, I headed up to Monkey Junction. Soon after I returned by Sanders and River Roads. Sunday, October 4, 2015 2PM Update: Heavy rains are coming down HARD! At 2pm, northeast winds are 35 plus knots.

I have seen this before!! Ocean wave top's ( 1,200 yards out) are higher than land. Yep! They are slightly above the height of the Blue Marlin's backyard. What saving us is 1,200 yards out, ocean waters are 20 to 25 feet deep during this autumnally high tide. As these monsters charge toward the beach, the depths of the waters decreases thereby causing the waves to toppled over. About 250 feet out, there is a "shallow" sandbar running parallel to the shore's of Kure Beach. Here the big waves are reduced to what we are uses to. However, the rapid secession of fast waters create hazardous rip currents in the shallow surf. You never want to find yourself here. Sea wash is very likely to pull one out to sea. Atlantic satellites are showing the current Kure Beach weather system independent of Hurricane "Joaquin". Many roads in the county are detoured due to street flooding and road wash outs. Stay Dry! Saturday, October 3, 2015 2:00 PM Bright Sunshine is Upon Us! Currently, Canal Drive in Carolina Beach is underwater. Lunar tides at the beginning of the first month after the Autumnal Equinox loads all storm water drains with ocean water. There is nowhere for the rains to go. Morning report: Rains continue! At 8:00 am nobody fishing between Blue Marlin Apartments and Kure Pier. Winds were blowing straight in off the water and onto the beach. Rain showers are about 15 - 20 miles out to sea. Virginia Mullets and Pompanos are being caught off Kure Pier. 9:00 am; Early this morning, after sunrise, my wife reported the winds blowing straight out of the northeast, hence " a fisherman's northeaster". September 3-4, 2015 Subtropical winds this afternoon along with hail, broken tree limbs and short power outages. Yesterday, my family and I notice a power line down beside Dow Road, just west of Kure Beach. Kure Beach Fire Department was on the scene in minutes. Thank fellows! Shortly after we met two Duke Power utilities crews heading toward location. July 19, 2015 The surf in Kure Beach has been packed with swimmers the past week. Reports have been Kings and Spanish caught off Kure Pier. Spots, Croakers and Flounder are stables for the frying pan. Sharks are spotted off Kure Pier. Today Jelly fish are red due to the algae concentration from the summer temperature. July 12, 2015 Sorry for the delay, its been busy here in Kure Beach. This morning we notice 6 sportsman boat less than 150 yards off shore between N and L avenue. That's right in front of the Blue Marlin Apartments and just 50 yards north of Kure Pier. Looks like there trolling for Kings. Kure Pier has racked up several Kings catches this week, one over 25 pounds. Got-cha plugs and Silver Clark Spoons are popular tackle. Croakers are still here, summer Flounder are getting fat. July 2, 2015 Lots of riff-raft nonsense going on! You know, the things in life that makes you appreciate the nice days. Anyway, a half a pound of Shrimp yielded, it only took one shrimp, a 21.5 inch 3.20 lb. Flounder. I had fun watching the teenager look on as I filet his price family's dinner. Sunday, June 28, 2015 Spots and Croakers are making the scene on Kure Pier. "Yes! We are OUT of Bloodworms, for the moment". Refrigeration truck is scheduled to arrived sometime in the next 24 hours with some nice fat ones. Yesterday evening, Kure Beach and neighboring counties experienced wind gust up to 40 knots. Saturday, June 27, 2015 Kure Pier, a local fisherman enjoys fishing Flounder with his special "homemade" Kure Beach, Max's-Rig. Max meaning "increasers results for catching Flounder". Two Gulp baits, "white" his favorite color, swimming 5 inches apart gives the allusion of a small school of minnows. Winds are up this morning, humidity at 8 am is okay, yet many here are getting many outside chores done before the noon sun make it presence known. Stay Tuned! Thursday, June 25, 2015 More Flounder catches are coming in. Snows Cut and Cape Fear River are showing some large sized action. Local Fishermen are reporting Bait Fish in the waters off Kure Beach. Tuesday, June 23, 2015 UPDATE 9:30am This just in! Local boat captain stopped in, he reports, Mahi-mahi 22 + ponders are less than 15 miles offshore. Many are being caught. 8:00am no catching reports. Not as hot, temp wise, but humidity has accelerated over the past two days. Going back to the sky's after twilight, the moon has rotated away from the two bright planets in the western sky. Sunday, June 21, 2015 "Man, I am all fished out! Caught Spots, Croakers and Blues. Now its time for a cool set of six." reported one fisherman. Last night, Kure Beach witnessed a beautiful "3/16" moon as it conjectured with the planets Venus and Jupiter. (Okay, if not Jupiter, Saturn?) For us, I would called the celestial site - "Trinity Watch ". Very holy, magnificent and inspiring. Check out this evening's show in your home town. Friday, June 19, 2015 For us, fishing reports have dropped off. Not sure why. Bait sales are not as fluent the past couple of days than over the week or so. For the last four days, dark rain clouds have hovered over Wilmington, NC. That's about 18 miles north of here. "If is wasn't for the breeze, we would be in a stew" reported on fisherman. Stay Tuned! Tuesday, June 16, 2015 Folks Karen, Mom, little Sister and I have been extremely busy the past four days. Schools out!! Other news: Great sadness. Over the weekend there was a horrible tragedy approximately 25 miles from here. Shark Attack! Two young swimmer were attacked, resulting in the loss of limbs. Our hearts go out to the victims and their love ones. Back in Kure Beach, our Ice Sales went through the roof, so to speak. Just walking over to the post office proved daunting in 99 degree heat with plus 90% humidity. Sheepheads, Flounders and many Croakers are being caught just up the street from here. Old Dow-Nickle's intake 40 plus inch pipe, it been there since the 1930's, has layers of marine growth for all sort of game and pan sized fish. Saturday a 24 inch Black Drum was hauled in. Friday, June 12, 2015 The past couple of days, Kure Pier is seeing lots of action on Flounders. Many throw backs is not hurting the cause. They do get bigger. Say 22 inches. 17inch seems to be the average. State law limits size to 15 inch minium for a total count of six per day. That why a dozen minnows will suffice Stay Tuned! Tuesday, June 9, 2015 Every weekday morning, they been catching a big yellow school bus two houses down from our store. This has been going on like clockwork since the third week of August, 2014. Folks from out of state, Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Ohio are thru school this year, and enjoying their vacation. Fish catches have been off and on. One day there Flounder on the Rockwall south of the ferry landing, one big 22 inch Flounder caught of our Mud Minnows. Spot and Croakers are giving lots of folks a mess of fish for frying. Monday morning, May 25, 2015 Folks, yesterday was not a pleasant day in the lodging business. (Kure Beach's streets were packed with stopped traffic and people seeking lodging rentals.) For us, we had two apartments to open up. When we turned our vacancy sign on, several families, some with babies, came seeking shelter, not a vacation rental. Along with limited lodging, biggest problem, way too many were not prepared to pay over the single night $175 price level. Frustration, tempers and panic along with a few cusswords ran ramped! Friday, May 22, 2015 Yes you guessed it, small stuff, except for one five pound Sheephead along the Rockwall south of the Fort Fisher Ferry. Since this past Monday, afternoon rain showers have been regular. Yesterday, Columbus County had an official tornado. Homes and other property damaged as frightened residents took cover. Saturday, May 16, 2015 There must be over 750 Out-of-Towner in Kure Beach this afternoon. Last week's rains produce a big tide-line of murky waters extending about a mile out. One fisherman using Clark spoons and Got-a-cha plugs was very upset with these conditions. "The only folks catching any fish are bait fisherman". Thursday, May 14, 2015 Afternoon update: Yesterday's customer returns for more shrimp. Sorry but we are out! He reported several fishermen fishing 4 block south of Kure Pier had a blast this morning. "Many Bluefish 12 - 16 inches long, along with Black Drum and Spots were caught today and last evening".
am: Fishing reports have been bleak. Today, Kure Beach is getting a strong, stiff northeaster. At least this one is a dry northeaster. Lots of rain this past weekend. Its taken a tole on our guest's Wi-Fi. Yesterday fishermen reported the Wi-Fi in his apartment was going in-out. After checking all connection, our main access point is only yielding 59%. Now we have another lady, "ANA"! So far, she very gentle as she steps ashore. At 10:25 am, according to weather radar, an outer edge band of clear skies of her eye is less than 20 miles from here. 45 degree angle rains are soaking everything in site. continued, am report:: High winds, less than 30 knots, are here this morning, along with sunshine and rain. Surprisingly many couples have shown up for the quite get-a-way. "We just love the beach when the streets are empty" quoted one lady. Yesterday we only sold fishing license and very little bait if any. Reports came in that Jim Cantore of the "Weather Channel" had setup a temporary news-camp at Wrightsville Beach. That's 35 minutes north of Kure. Last evening at sunset, Kure Beach Fire and Police preformed a successful water rescue. Serious enough to require ambulance for prompt transporting swimmer to hospital. Stay Tuned! Thursday, May 7th, 2015 Snow's Cut! 100 plus feet above Snow's Cut bridge! Crossing the bridge just after 6:00 PM in noticed a big sea bird, some kind of Sea Hawk type bird flapping its wings very hard and deep. It look like a small Mackerel or large Bluefish in it's talons. The head of the fish was facing the same direction the big bird was flying, This is a very common site around here. Wednesday, May 6th, 2015 A New York get-a-way. A nice family from the great state of New York came in earlier this week to get their NC Coastal Fishing License. After baiting and tackling up, they headed south to the rock wall south of the Fort Fisher-Southport Ferry. They reported many croakers were caught. The tackle they had were standard tackle with standard lock snaps. (Distributed by Big Rock Sports - Henry's Tackle). Well as the report goes, a big, I mean BIG Red Drum came along and hit the shrimp and gave them a nice show. Yep, the standard tackle designed for Spots, Croakers, Virginia Mullets, Flounder and Bluefish gave way at the snap. Nothing wrong with the snap. It did it's job! Tuesday, May 5th, 2015 Sole couple reports, "Well we caught one Virginia Mullet, that is my wife did. Other than four missed hits, that was it! My face and back are red from the sunshine. We had fun!" Later on today, I upset one fisherman by not selling him a half a dozen of $4.50 minnows per dozen. He is a nice fellow and I hope he does good catching fish. Stay Tuned! Last year, Black Drum size limits were added to the North Carolina Saltwater regulations charts. The current March Version slot for Black Drum is 14"-25" TL (C) "C" meaning only one Black Drum per day that's over 25 inches. Folks if you're fortunate enough to hook one of these big beauties, try not to harm the fish then release, asp. Most likely this this fish is female. She "may" grown three times her current size. ( I saw one back in 1984-5). If so, she may mother hundreds of Black Drum. Virginia Mullets are in, Flounder are coming up short.
