Saturday, November 21, 2020: Today, Bluefish, Red Drums, Skates, and Virginia Mullets are biting. College girls stopped by, they were interested in Kites. Also a family of bicyclist stopped by. Thursday, November 19, 2020: Not many fishermen in today. One gentlemen and family reported " caught 11 blues, 5 Virginia Mullets and a Skate Seas were rough and it took a #6 to keep the bait out". Northeast winds, temperatures are very cool.

This fall, fishermen have caught many fish. This time of year, our customer count slowed down. This is normal. With Covid Cases increasing, this Sunday, Karen and I will be closing shop. We look forward to seeing everyone next spring, 2021.

Tuesday, November 10, 2020: Of the few reports from fishermen, all are catching fish!! SOME BIG TIME! One gentleman reported 80+ Virginia Mullets off Kure Pier. He came back and purchased two and a half pounds of our Heads off Shrimp. Mullet catch yesterday!! Our commercial fisherman reports, more Row Mullets are on their way.

Over the past two days, fewer customers are in our shop.
Over the past 40 years, the second week of November starts the beginning of the end of customer-fishing-season. The riddle is, "we have more fish than fisherman". Monday, October 26, 2020. On Earth and in Heaven, a special day of love to our special brother. Well folks, fisherman returns for more shrimp. Saturday, October 24, 2020. For most of today, winds blew from northeast, 7 knots. 5 PM, I noticed our "Open Flag" shifted with winds coming from the southwest, 1-3 knots.. Several fishermen returned to re-purchase Live Finger Mullets and Mud Minnows. Others restocked on Shrimp, Salted Mullets and fishing weights. Carolina Beach Fire Department held it's annual BBQ. Triggerfish and Permit fish were caught from the jetties at Wrightsville Beach. In season now, minimum 12 inches (XV # FF-28-2020), Triggerfish need to be skinned before cooking. At the end of their visits, many folks packed up their belongings and headed back home. Most came down to fish, others get away. Some caught several fish, others were disappointed. Saturday, October 17, 2020. Update: 9 PM: Today,by 10am, very few fishermen were in our shop . Unpleasant beach. Northeast winds were blowing strong and steady. Around 1pm winds speeds dropped, yet did not change directions. A steady flow of fishermen began coming in. By 3pm reports of Spanish Mackerels were loading up Kure Pier. Our SS Mackerel Trees were missed by many fishermen. Covid-19 has halted production of this popular tackle. Yesterday's fishermen were returning for more of our Salted Mullets. One fisherman reported, "I've caught 7 nice sized Spanish off this bait". Our live Finger Mullets were in demand. Many fishermen were upset to find "Flounder Season" closed September 30. Red Drum and Bluefish fishermen were happy we had stocked up.

Sunday, October 11, 2020. No reports at 2:00 PM: Around 5:30am Karen and I woke up to the sound of heavy rains.. Turned on the "Weather Channel" to see a big yellow blob of radar over most of Brunswick and New Hanover Counties. The hurricane that hit the Gulf Coast was braking up into huge chunks. One was right over us. Around 11:00 am skies began to clear, heavy rains had turned into rain, then to sprinkles. Saturday, October 10, 2020. Several surf reports of Pompanos and Spanish Mackerel being caught today. Ouch!! While removing the hook, a Large Bluefish bit a fisherman between the thump and pointer finger. Today, many familiar families were back in our shop. Our shop was almost like a Home-Coming Event. Friday, October 9, 2020. Several families, new to fishing stopped in today. All had fished fresh waters and ready to fish saltwater. New CRFL licenses required and purchased. For tomorrow's report, we hope to hear back. Our Bloodworms were in big demand. At the moment, our shop is out of Bloodworms. Larger Virginia Mullets are back. Wednesday, October 7, 2020. Special prayers for "Rickey". He is in the hospital. Rickey and I go back about 5 years or more. Rickey makes sure our Mullets are Iced down and packed properly, a very reliable and nice man!

Wednesday, September 30, 2020. Biting flies, sand gnats and mosquitoes are trying to take over. That being said, dressing fresh Pop-eye Mullets was not fun. Hump-day! Today, not many fishermen. Sunday, September 27, 2020. Yesterday was an extremely busy day in our shop. Lady fisherman reports, "My Daddy did not raise a prissy girl. I hunt, I fish, I work hard and I catch fish. Four Pompanos and a Drum!". Several other fishermen were reporting Flounders, Bluefish, Croakers and Virginia Mullets. Tuesday, September 22, 2020. Fishermen are back. One fisherman reports the past four days, his wife and he stayed in their warm motel room. Their 20 minute beach adventure did not last. Northeast winds sandblasted the surf. Many places, the beach drop 6 or more feet. High tide waves washed into the 8 foot beach dunes. Fisherman are wrapped up in sweaters, coats and hooded jackets. Late yesterday, Cape Fear River fisherman kept one of his keeper Flounders and a Black Drum. The rest, short red drum and eleven inch flounder went back into the river. Stay Tuned! Sunday, September 20, 2020. First day of sunshine in quite a while. This past Thursday, one devoted fisherman weather the rains on Kure Pier. He caught 22 edible Croakers. Yesterday our shop was extremely busy. Folks coming in from many places. West Virginia, Virginia, Western North Carolina and many points in between. Red Drum, Flounder and Bluefish reports slowed down but never stopped. (I believe, rough weather.) Cape Fear River at the old Fort Fisher Air Base showed Flounders. Sunday, September 6, 2020. Many bait sales were made today. Shrimp, Cut Mullets, Squid, Live Finger Mullets and Mud Minnows. Winds were blowing out of the north. Friday, September 4, 2020. Second Shrimp order! Fisherman reports Spots are the largest he has seen this season. 10 Keeper size Virginia Mullets, Ladyfish and 2 throw back Black Drum. 13 inches.
